Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

AoM DE Announcement on the Final Redbull Legacy Day incoming

I thought they were gonna say it in gamescom or some event which is gonna happen in June 2022. Probably we can see the real gameplay like they did for AoE2 DE in ECL.

 

AoE:DE seem to have changed to AoE:RoR.

Didn't he say that about RBW5?
I think it was about how long he would have to be in quarantine both before and after, not 100% sure but sounds not new to me, so I doubt he said that regarding RBW Legacy (especially since there is way bigger prizepool this time).

Also it's proly though to say for now how the corona-situation will be in october regarding quarantine and the likes of it, so it would be surprising if he already says he won't come.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the Invite-Spots yet (for the aoe2 part ofc).
The 8 Qualifier-Spots and the 4 Invite-Spots for previous winners are clear, but then we have 4 Spots which are given based on Tournament performances like the best performing Player in Resurgence (not neccesarily the winner, since if Yo wins the other finalist get's the spot).

Since the Qualifiers are happening at the end of august it makes only sense to have those 3 other Spots taken before end of august, means proly 3 more yet not announced S-Tier 1vs1 Tournaments happening before end of August.

I do wonder what those Tournaments will be since NAC and KotD are very very unlikely, could it actually be HC5? Maybe also RBW6? Another Open Classic by Viper? Or somehting completely new/unexpected?

Seems like we are down to two tournaments now since RMS 2 has two Redbull tickets, but it still leaves one tournament to speculate about.

I think Hidden Cup is unlikely. Together with everything T90 said about why its not happening the tournament format is not fit for hyping around a ticket since we won't know until afterwards who even has a chance to get it or in which match it was decided.

I think if it was RBW6 redbull would have announced it already.

I think its unlikely Memb has had time for another tournament. The mans a machine but there has to be some limit to how many tournaments he can host.

I find it unlikely TheViper is planning a tournament while playing Golden League. Not because its impossible but because he seems really focused on redeeming himself after his performance in N4C.

My guess is a Nili and/or T90 hosted tournament that is neither HC nor NAC. Maybe in EW to see how the new civs play out?

 

What is RMS2 about? I mean I saw trailer on youtube after checking liquepedia, but didn't even see anywhere what those letters translate to?

RMS means Random Map Scripting, basically writing code which then generates a random map in game. In the previous iteration, Masters of RMS, all maps were newly made from what I can tell. So you can expect that most of the mappool are taken from the $4k map contest. Other than that, its a 1v1 event with tba settings.

I want to comment on timezone, very bad. The start time is ok for the whole world, but it's too long and too many series for Asian players to stay up all night

Qualifying is only for the purpose of finding for top-notch matches for fans, viewers and the remaining 8 good players to enter the Main event, And with the number of rounds + too many games for DAY 1 .

Personally, I've been to RW qualifiers and I'm really not healthy and alert enough to go to the finals even though I slept a lot during the day,, I always get beaten up there. because I don't have enough energy to maintain until midnight, I suggest that it is better to divide it into 1 week 3 DAY or 2 weeks 3 DAY it will be better for me and others who are having the same situation as me. We still have a lot of time, why not take an extra weekend for the preliminary round ( R512,256,128,64 ) to make it fairer?

My contribution is a bit personal but I really want a few more Asians or Australians to go to Europe.

You would have Weekend 1 have an Americas and Middle East friendly start and Weekend 2 with a Europe and Far East friendly start.
Then anyone can signup to any of the 4 brackets, but will always have at least 1 that works for their time zone well and we don't have these issues.
Some Places - eg china - would fall between Middle and Far East times so i theory would have 1 good option each weekend.

Agreed. Since, the qualifiers are there to get the best players in for the LAN (where the timezone will not be an issue apart from some jet lag for a couple of days), it makes sense to allow players to play in their best setting as much as possible. The tournaments and the prizepool have become bigger, it makes sense to expand the timezones as well.

Just checked your games in the two qualifiers of RBW4 that you lost (vs. Dogao and Nicov). According to my calculations , these matches started at ~10pm/11pm (your time) on a Sunday. Is this too late for you?

Maybe these could have been played earlier (but then it would become more and more difficult for South American time zone). Maybe as a compromise move it by one or two hours could be a compromise?

 

I think having two qualifications where one is American time zone friendly and the other one is Asian time friendly would be the best.
