Announcement

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.
  • Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
  • Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
  • Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification

Age of Empires II

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.
You can already sign up for the open qualifiers here and here.

Age of Empires IV

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.
Registration and more information regarding this can be found here.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

For streamers, broadcasters, content creators and so on - I'm not able to share much information regarding streaming policies as of right now. I'll be sure to provide more information as soon as it becomes available. Feel free to reach out to me on Discord, and I'll take note of your interest for later. I know some people have already reached out regarding this, but please do so again now that the event has been properly announced. You can reach me at Chrazini#5687, thank you.

For additional information, go to redbull.com/wololo.

With MarineLord's success in aoe4 combined with this massive prize pool it'll be interesting to see which if any sc2 pros try to qualify for this (whether aoe2 or 4). For reference, only 5 foreign sc2 players made even $30k last year so I have to assume this will be on their radar.
I believe Serral has been playing AoE4 recently and is already rank 25 with only 150 games
Given that Serral is just a better SC2 or RTS player than any of the other SC2 pros that switched, I would not be surprised to see him compete.
BUT
He is still making good money in SC2 and is still competitive against the Koreans so he might have other things to do

I can't imagine the dilemma of the hardcore AoEZoner now, torn between crying about AoE 4 getting 300k and celebrating AoE 2 still receiving an amazing prize pool and LAN.

I'm more concerned about whether all the players will get to attend this LAN after the issues last time.

aoe2 and aoe4, tough choice for Viper, it's like finding 2 different treasure chests.

Choosing one makes you lose the other. Choosing both will make it hard to carry them :roflmao:

There is a chance Viper qualifies for the AoE4 event from Golden League (already qualified for AoE2 from RBW5). He has already guaranteed himself a top 4 finish, so he would only need to win 1 more set to qualify for RBW6: AoE4

All the hardcore AoE2 fanbois on the zone should be cheering for Viper in Golden League!~

I'm really going to enjoy when AOE2 (which gives 100k less money) has more viewers than AOE4. Will it be the last proof for Microsoft to understand that AOE4 is a failure?

The original game is free in Vietnam, which is the version that they all play there.

What's more crazy.

Aoe4 getting 300k in this state.
Aoe1 getting 50k, does anybody even play the DE version competitively?
Aoe2 despite everything getting twice as much as last RBW

Hard to decide but it's probably in this order. Hopefully they give Nili a costume this time.

The Tournament will be though to organize anyway (especially with all those qualifying stuff).

Good to see AoE I involved, but still curious about why no AoE III, even if it just was a small prize pool and top 4 or top 2 in Heidelberg.

Yeah it's a bit of a shame and miss on a great opportunity, not sure why MS wouldn't push for it (or well... on that note, very curious on Microsoft's involvement, could help understand), kind of sad to even just see all the games flaring on the Discord with news and III... Well, we know how it goes (no need to mention AoM that was brought up often as theory, you guys don't much know what's up with that game, it is like hated by Microsoft or something, which has to do with EE and its justified reception by the community, that will be brought up only when it's time to rake in the cash with DE or needs to push something in the other games).

Otherwise you can have all kinds of theories, but with AoEIII obviously missing, there is a reason, maybe simply based on name and situation and such it doesn't fit timeline-wise, because they need/want AoEIV as the last, main entry, and AoEIII is time-wise after it, so with Legacy, it looks strange to have the main title still followed by another, making it maybe from some points of view confusing, so III being unlucky IV went back in timeline (or from the other side, since they wanted the theme/justify Legacy to have both II and IV, they felt they had to add AoEI as well :d), or they just wanted AoEI "showmatch" just because (anniversary and such), or they added AoEI as an afterthought as a reaction to public perception between II and IV to dilute it as that might have been the original plan (because otherwise just those two would make sense, and that would be the most sensible approach - success on II and wanted to catch IV as well as the new "hype" (well...) game), or combined, as it all could fit, take your pick really.

Based on AoEI's limited/localised popularity I find it dubious it would be just like that without motivation in comparison to III which has much more sensible branding value, so since adding III would only improve their general perception, there has to be something overriding it, or simply the event not being planned as "across the franchise" to begin with.

Well, gl&hf everyone.

Mmmh, the graphic designer for the banner totally used Michelle Pfeiffer's face right?
Just imagine this time it's her inside the full metal armour 11

Free money, play both. Focus on the one you are more likely to win or enjoy playing/practicing more. Focusing on both does seem like a slippery slope.

What's even more crazy, as far as my understanding goes only Vietnamese players are able to join this particular game.
A quick search told me the average Vietnamese household earns $2,000 per year, approximately. So if the first place receives half the prizepool that's like 14-15 annual incomes for the winner, that's absolutely insane!
Will be extremely competitive for the players if you look at it like that, if you ask me!

It's a shame they will be "forced" to play on DE (but I can understand that MS wants to show the new products), and that the event doesn't allow for any kind of DE community to grow, I would guess there would be some non-vietnamese players who would try their best at qualifying if it was possible, though not sure how realistic that is with aoe1 not getting much updates...
