Red Bull Wololo: Legacy - Official Announcement

Announcement​

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

Survivalist is a great caster, but can't believe i need to now listen to the annoying voice of Ellice (who is that even?? never heard of her before) when watching Daut vs. Capoch

Would be better to only have casters that are qualified to do the job..

She has hosted tournaments and casts pro games pretty regularly. Although I think she is ~1100 ELO and is constantly being corrected by Survivalist on some pretty basic facts 11
She is funny and lively but I think people are looking for somebody who is more of an expert on the game to be casting over such a major tournament like this one

Ornlu is casting it as well

She is funny and lively but I think people are looking for somebody who is more of an expert on the game to be casting over such a major tournament like this one

no offense, so she makes the RBW like a $500 tournament.

Ornlu actually mentioned that Red Bull preferred her over him to be in charge of the B-stream. I find that a bit disrespectful towards a very good and knowledgable caster like Ornlu.
Can't help but feeling someone was preferred for the job for other reasons that being qualified which doesn't sit well with me

nothing personal, not Elle's fault - but game knowledge and casting skills cant be trained overnight...
The decision making her to cast all these game is just absurd and ruin so much fun tbh especially the Daut vs Capoch ones...

 

I'm really disliking this A/B format. Watching Sitaux vs Valas over Daut vs Capoch..?

I want to listen to the best casters, not those on the B stream...

 

Daut

Well honestly that late game of last game was feeling very weird to me... Daut not having armor for siege elephants which makes them so much better than rams as vills do not deal with them as good really made there a big part. Also Capoch seemed bit weird(maybe doesnt really know much about siege eles as played a lot aoe4) doing so many cataphracts and not even a single spearman/pikeman to defend from those siege eles. It just felt like capoch kind of did quite bad with that last Daut's aggression, but he just was so far ahead that it was still enough. And seems he did really nice raid with those xbow, which Ellie completely missed

 

I feel bad about Ellie situation, I know she is trying her best and being lively to keep entertaining but I have to agree with diversity comments.

The problem is more general, when I watch a product, first I do expect a certain quality from all elements, gender, color, background comes afterwards. There must be a minimum level of standards, then you can make your selection according to WOKE culture within those people above standard level or look for duo with chemistry etc. etc. I don't mind, that's allright.

But if there is not women/african/asian etc. that covers your need above minimum standards, dropping your standard below is not good idea and looks like that's what happened here.

 

Purely diversity tokenism.

Well putting a pretty girl into male dominated areas like esports isn't something new. They host and comment in tournaments since many years. It's a cheap and effective method to fish for views. So I wouldn't put it automatically into todays wokenism, but simply the nature of things, that most of the male population like to watch girls.
Other than that, I'd wish she would have prepared better and at least learned the basics of the game.
I do agree, that the B stream should be more professional or not exist at all.

Interviewers are now coming up with creative ways to ask the players how they feel post victory. Becoming a bit of a meme! Think it's a valid question to ask. Opens up the dialogue nicely without going into too much detail straight off the bat.

 

Islands is such a trash map. Really not sure how it keeps making it into big tournaments.

One duo analyze, while other duo cast. This has been the pattern

 

A former invited champion is eliminated in a series that is not streamed on the main channel. I think the tournament deserves better than this.

 

What a great 3d game between MBL and Capoch, too bad its only bo3 and Single-elimination brackets for a tournament this big. Also nice seeing Liereyy in better shape today, will be intresting to see if Yo is in better shape today, been enjoing alot so far!

 

So Lierrey - Viper seems likely now, how is the match is done for QLs?

 

im not sure, but think it's MBL vs Hera, Jordan vs TaToh, depends on this game who Viper meets, if Yo wins Viper will play Liereyy, if ACCM win Viper will play him.

That we understand, but will it Viper vs. Liereyy, to be honest very few people care about rest. You basically have final in QL, if Viper and Liereyy meets early.
