Announcement

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.
  • Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
  • Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
  • Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification

Age of Empires II

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.
You can already sign up for the open qualifiers here and here.

Age of Empires IV

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.
Registration and more information regarding this can be found here.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

For streamers, broadcasters, content creators and so on - I'm not able to share much information regarding streaming policies as of right now. I'll be sure to provide more information as soon as it becomes available. Feel free to reach out to me on Discord, and I'll take note of your interest for later. I know some people have already reached out regarding this, but please do so again now that the event has been properly announced. You can reach me at Chrazini#5687, thank you.

For additional information, go to redbull.com/wololo.

Is it relevant to you whether or not the terrorism is ongoing? Cuz France should definitely be described as a terrorist government as they attempted to maintain their colonial empire in the 60's. What about the arming of terrorists? France certainly sent some truckloads of weapons to Al Qaeda in Syria and sold advanced weaponry to the Saudi government.
Yeah I think it is relevant that it is happening right now, because time gives you perspective.

For instance someone said 80% of Russians support Putin's war. It's not unreasonable to think that in the 60s, 80% of French were in support of the atrocities that were committed in Algeria, because they were in support of that shameful war. I would think (and certainly hope) nowadays most French condemn France's actions in Algeria.

And while France nowadays certainly isn't beyond reproach (who is?), I also fail to see how that detracts from the Russian situation. Feels a bit like whataboutism.

Your sarcasm aside, it's not the same thing. Far, far more lives were lost in the events I listed compared to what's currently going on with Russia and Ukraine.

Your facts are correct, but what point are you trying to prove? That it's logical to have the french goverment top of mind in the same way as russia, since France sells high quality weapons to saudi arabia and russia sent its army to kill people in ukraine? Or what does it bring to the discussion about vinch?

1. Banning Vinch for the decisions of a dictator is stupid.

2. Keyboard warriors may feel the need to condemn allowing Vinch to play. It achieves nothing - if you are really against Terrorism, start with your own country. See whether they're still trading with Russia or with other countries engaging in terrorism (most are). If you live in a powerful country, chances are your country has and is still engaging in terrorism somewhere in the world. If you've never been part of a domestic protest yourself, don't bother asking others.

3. Organisers may/should take the decision to not show Vinch's flag - in line with the decision being taken by other sports. Although for a small game like aoe2, it wouldn't achieve anything except saving RB some political discussions during the games, so probably not the worst idea.

4. About the war - ofcourse Russia is the bad guy. But the west is equally stupid. Ukraine is a victim stuck between the aggressor and those who put Ukraine at risk by pursuing expansionist policies. Just like most geopolitical wars.

welp this thread is headed towards closure 11

imo no one except vinch and anyone he has personally told, knows what is going on in his mind. being that we know absolutely nothing of his personal situation, it seems ridiculous to impute any kind of stance or motive on him unless he has revealed it to any of us.

but of course keyboard warriors are going to keyboard warrior.

Lol do you know anything about region at all or when actually this war started? It dates back to annexation of Crimea, which had nothing to do with expansionism.

Oh it's not my comment/opinion. It's John Mearsheimer's. Of course, if you've studied geopolitics, you'd know who Mearsheimer is. But I doubt it, so just FYI - he's the biggest name in the Realist school of thought in International Politics. Distinguished Professor at UChicago. And he predicted this war long back.

oozkan said:

Oh it dates way long back than the 2014 annexation and the political killings of 2014. See this talk from Mearsheimer in 2015 - 7 years back when not one of us was following this crisis (and now suddenly everyone is an expert lol). The expansionist policy of NATO has been evident since the 1990s so see the talk first.

And no need to take my comment as a justification for what Russia is doing. But to suggest that west policies actually had nothing to do with it is just ignorant or as hypocritical as not understanding your own country's wrongdoings. Punish Russia. But to ensure this doesn't happen again, punish your own countries too for what they're doing in other small nations.

PS - Anyway, as the admin said, I will avoid political discussions. I think the focus of my initial comment was the first 3 points. The 4th point was off-topic for this forum and best to ignore.

I think we are way offtopic and this thread should be closed.

I also think that there is a lot of people (me included) who like to talk and give opinons on geopolitics and other important topics (usually unrelated or barely related with aoe) so im proposing something like AGE OF DEBATES discord/thread/whatever

I don't think it's a whataboutism at all. My point is that if the Russian flag is to be considered a symbol of a Pro-invasion of Ukraine viewpoint, and thus unacceptable to be displayed in any context, (even to simply denote the national origin of a competing player) then other flags should be similarly scrutinized.

It's less about minimizing Russia's invasion and more about looking at things in a balanced way. Should Yo's flag be removed for what's been happening in Xinjiang? Should Daniel's flag be removed for the US's history of ****ing up the whole world? Should Kasva's flag be removed cuz his government (and probably most of the people) deny the Armenian genocide, despite perpetrating it? A much bigger political statement is being made by removing Russia's flag than displaying it in this context.

The next one who is discussing the russia/ukraine war (or other wars) will get banned without any warning.
This site is about Age Of Empires - not about war...

I know there can be said alot about wars, but this site is not the place to do that. Not even in the wololo section.
Sorry about that.

Maurice Weber = journalist from gamestar, who streams from time to time as well, well-experienced in build-up games like Anno or Siedler series, but not so much in aoe. Average viewer count like 1k I think?
Maxim = variety streamer, streams whatever is popular/new. Played aoe a few times, but not really experienced either. Average viewer count is like 2k? (correct me pls)

Kinda sucks that there is no real german aoe expert. Nili is not avialable, nC_pedro retired :frown:
Wouldnt mind if someone like Annotoph would cocast with them, or maybe Jordan in the later stages.

So im still confused about all this bla bla here. Will vinchester be able to compete in this tournament? Because he should he is one of the strongest AoE players right now
And about the rest Im still confused that in 2022 people still use good or bad in the brains or use pigeonholing to get a better view on things.
Our system is based on economic growth. But in nature there is no infinty growth. So to create a sort of infinity fake economic growth you need to destroy things and get rid of alot of human beings. War and crises always benefits the powerfulls and that is not coincidence.
And in history its always the same. If there is a powerful member in the society that lost maybe a son in war and has now reason to say we need to stop the violence/madness. He will get removed and replaced with some one that is willing to do what system wants to get done.
If you want to change something. Stop headless consume. Stop headless obey. Share love and family values. Get independently. Get rid of your car. Stop wasting resources. Try to be a bit like Sepp Holzer from austria. There so much we can do everyday. To tear us apart here in this thread or in the internet won't bring us anywhere.
I hope Vinchester will be there.

That's not completely correct, yes he is a varity streamer, but he is especially known for being a Caster/Commentator for games like LOL, so atleast in that sense he is definitely very experienced.

Obv. this casting-duo is by far not as experienced when it comes to aoe2 as f.e Memb+Nili, but I guess it's more about getting new viewers.
Also they seem to cast aoe1, aoe2 and aoe4.

And they play alot of strategy games in events. Like CIV 6 right? I think Maurice is well known in the german community, as strategy urgestein at Gamestar.
Overall both of them are a good choice to cover the whole event for intrested german viewers.

Yes, actually he is participating in a Civ6 Event tomorrow.
I think he's especially known for creating the Edain Mod of Battle for Middle Earth, not sure I've ever seen him cast anything big though.
But both of them are definitely very well known in germany, especially when it comes to strategy games.
