Announcement​

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

you'd have to "ban" from EU basically all Chinese players as well, since their country is giving "green light" to this war, by doing almost nothing to stop it.

As far as I know, there are many wars going on different parts of the world. I wonder if those who are against the war on Ukraine are against the war on these other countries too.

The western backed Saudi alliance that is currently causing the starvation of hundreds of thousands of people in Yemen, a much worse situation than what is going on in Ukraine, doesn't get any discussion whatsoever. And the citizens of the countries sponsoring this blockade, i.e. the US, UK, France, Spain, etc. have no expectation upon them to condemn anything.

To say it again, you don't know, what his opinion on the war is. OK, you write him on discord and got a non-reply, but I think it is naive to just assume that this is, indeed, private. He is a top 5 player in a pretty popular strategy game, so I wouldn't assume just like that, that FSB is not "occasionally checking" his discord (or at least, that vinch can be sure they do not).

Why exactly does he have to publically condemn the war to participate in the tournament? What exactly did he do (other than not leaving Russia, which he might not be able or willing for various reasons) to facilitate or support the aggression of the Russian state/government/army?
In chess, Russian individual players are allowed to compete under a neutral flag, unless they said bs like Karyakin did. And I guess, that solution is more common at the moment than plain banning Russians.

Well my few cents... I don't think that Vinch has to say anything, is easy to say that he should condemn war while you yourself don't live in rusky place. However even though I like Vinch and it probably isn't right from his point of view, I would say he shouldn't have been let to go to RBW, we can't cherry pick whom to let come or not just because it has more influence on us and sanctions should be applied to everyone.

As for other wars, mainly muslims I suppose, there is big reason why wetern world doesnt really care about it. As mad you can be or how unfair that is, but there are dozens of storries how someone goes there and gets killed or jailed for dumb reasons. Or how football organisers get raped and even jailed, I mean there are no proper rights nor was before so blaming UN or someone to not do anything is just ridiculous, sadly there is tons of that nonsense. You can't fix a place where you need to fix almost everything.

Another reason is why europeans care about Ukraine way more, cause my country might have been next, not to talk about all the prices like electricity and so on. Is similar like most south america probably don't give much fk about Ukraine and I can completely understand it, it doesnt touch them as much, you just can't get emotionally involved into everything at same level, that just doesnt work like that.

Sure I hope Iranians get something out of those protests, that women get more rights, I really wish it to them, but at same time again as being russia's neighbour I kinda have bigger issue to worry about right now.

I believe keeping it around Vinch -eventually Russian access to EU- and RBW should be OK at least. Not sure about the rest, although I am tempted to write a few words...

We DO have players from countries participating in wars, genocides, atrocities. Is it just you that you dont want to see that. I do agree to not involve this issues into this matter so i think vinch should be able to play (obviously) as well as any other player.

The first quoted message is really sad and it summed up your point of view, is plainly racism and colonialism, but well, it is what it is.

If you dont want to make it political dont make it, i agree. But what you are doing is making it political only when you agree.

We need to be able to talk and discuss as a community, try not to involve in delicated issues and dont judge the individuals for the things a country does. Because in that case no one from us, uk, france should be able to play nothing ever.

Exactly, and if they were not checking for sure some troll would report him and bam 3 days later he is "randomly drafted" to the front. Crazy that keyboard warriors expect him a random gamer to take a stance against the war when in his position they would hide behind troll nicks as they already do (looking at stupidpieceofsheep).

I find it totaly normal that he don't wanna say anything about it to his AoE fans. I don't like it and were thinking long time ago he should not be able to play with Russian flag, but its kinda nice in this AoE bubble were politics does not matter and for sure must be a nice break from reality for Vinchester, let him compete he earned it with skills.

 

as i said, there are bigger things than videogames and protecting our comfortable bubble. maybe instead of being super emphatic only to some privileged kid we, as such wholesome community, could make a statement in support of thousands of people being attacked- as many other sport organisations did. not allowing to play under russian flag is the least we can do.

but its easier to pretend that none of this is going on, politics dont affect us and just chill and have good times. shame that many ukrainians cant have this nice break from reality tho

1) I was referring to China's stance on the Russian Invasion, which is neutral. The average Russian citizen can't do anything to stop this war; China could stop it in a few hours, if they wanted to. But I won't be going completely off topic by explaining this.
2) The sanctions are supposed to make this war as expensive as possible for Russia. They're not supposed to stop a professional gamer from doing their job.
3) Once again, it doesn't matter what he actually thinks about this war. He's not competing in behalf of the Russian government, and yeah, he's Russian and being Russian is not a crime, nor something to be ashamed of. Don't confuse a nation with its government, because it's a big difference.

 

i will not get into further amateur geopolitical discussion, i will just say again that aprox 80% of russian nation supports their government and vinch did not state he doesnt. not today, when he's threatened by draft (i agree it wouldnt be smart thing to do), not in february, when thousands of russians protested the war (thats when i reached out to him)

im not gonna stay here whole day and argue, i said what i wanted to say and i believe it had to be said whether it affects anyones thoughts or not

He'd represent himself and not his government at least. Not the best, but better than having a player with a russian flag...

This would at least be reasonable enough, even though I personally don't see any real need for not using the Russian flag, which isn't a symbol of evil or something like that. But the most reasonable solution would be to discard any flag for this event altogether. None of the players are actually representing their country, so it makes little to no sense to state their nationality.

 

Three things:
- war is not politics.
- to people from outside Europe - all the wars are bad and victims in eg Africa are not less imporant, that's clear. But it's natural we Europeans are more interested in war just around the corner. So if you are from South America I understand you don't really care that much. The war is in Europe, people writing it are mostly from Europe and the tournament is to be held in Europe so we're concentrating on it right now.
- I could accept Vinch under the neutral flag. If he doesn't accept it though he should not be allowed. Do you really wanna see there a russian flag after all this?

What about the arming of terrorists? France certainly sent some truckloads of weapons to Al Qaeda in Syria and sold advanced weaponry to the Saudi government.

Your sarcasm aside, it's not the same thing. Far, far more lives were lost in the events I listed compared to what's currently going on with Russia and Ukraine.

But yes, assisting a country in starving the populace of their neighbor, which is ongoing, mind you, is worse than anything Russia has done thus far in their 2022 Ukraine invasion.
