Announcement​

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

Too German answer, may be in Germany they do.
On the other hand, it is not unofficial to get a visa from Greece, I don't think they are applying to a business visa anyway, probably they used tourist one for NAC etc.

Him having a higher seed would be even worse... He doesn't deserve it, he says so himself. If he doesn't deserve it, why complain. Giving him a higher seed for qualifying early would be unfair to the opponents. What a weird take by Viper.

Seed 14 is one of the four "Invited" players, if there is no misunderstanding, this is below Wallhalla's Duckrace seeding, there at least qualified and invited were paired with each other 11

(Screenshot doesn't show the rest, but Kasva and HuT are "Top weekly point earners", not "Qualified" or "Invited".)

 

So Kasva and Capoch in the end got there, nice, making capoch and Viper on both games there, however at this point Capoch is probably way better in aoe4?

I think Viper will fully focus all of his attention to Aoe2, wouldn't be surprised if he goes out in the first round or day 1 for aoe4. Even for an RTS genius like Viper who has an understanding of the series beyond everyone else, his performance in aoe2 will struggle big time if he tries to get back in groove for aoe4.

A lot of times, players will learn and adapt as they play (contrary to Auto-piloting), and that is what might throw Viper off both the games if he tries to do that while playing aoe4. In fact, that speaks volumes about how good Viper actually is, I am pretty sure the guy Auto-piloted through most of aoe2 tournaments back when he was grinding aoe4, and still got pretty far and could beat almost everyone except for maybe top 8. However, in Redbull, when the level is going to be so cut-throat, he really needs all of his focus on aoe2, EW is very different from RM and auto-piloting should not work vs anyone in the LAN. I am glad they are doing the GL Bootcamp again, the preparation will make all the difference!

Not at all. Beasty was first to qualify and is seeded #2, Marinelord qualified same time as viper but he is #1. Viper punished himself for not playing the game for months . What seed you would even give him? He qualified being 3rd on GL which is not that great result compared to other tournaments with 1st and 2nd placements. Also, viper starts playing against Puppypaw who viper did beat on GL for qualification spot. I would rather ask why viper is playing aoe4 RBW in first place. You would expect any top player play in all top tier tournaments and possibly smaller ones too (imagine viper not playing TTL, RMS2, BOA3, Wallhalla etc.), in other words actually playing the game regardless of if there is RBW or not

While Viper being a low seed isn't unjustified, it still is weird that they didn't announce how players were gonna be seeded before. If Viper had known seeding was mostly based on the RtW weekly events he might have signed up for a few of them.

Same issue exists in AoE2 tbh, we still don't know how players are gonna be seeded. Should they heavily focus on the EW ladder or is the seeding just gonna be based on tournament results?

Also it seems the format in AoE4 has changed to a double elimination stage with two groups of 8 players, will we see the same change in AoE2?

 

I would rather ask why viper is playing aoe4 RBW in first place.

I think Nimanoe's point is that if Viper had known what the seedings will be based on, he might've put some effort into improving his seeding. It's not whether his guess was correct or not, it's about not letting players know in advance.

Where did you find it? I think the whole boot camp got a lot more interesting. Maybe they should do a "Big Brother' style stream for that. Would be great viewing. :D

Looks like all of AM (except Nicov) is in the same group as well.
Since 8 people advance out of the groups, it's still possible that all 4 GL players make it through, and perhaps more likely than being in a group with Yo/Hera/Lierrey/MBL

Still stupid to put all from one team in the same group. Why not swap Viper with Lierrry ans Yo with Daut. Groups would look a lot better then in terms of teams

I don't think teams should be a factor in setting pools as long as there is no opportunity for throwing games to help each other
