Announcement​

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

Yeah seeding has to be close to perfect with these brackets and given the previous Red Bull tournaments and that there still isn't an agreed upon seeding method, there's gonna be some drama for sure.

While that sounds very reasonable, that still leaves groups of 4 to be seeded

And we still have those famous "ranking points" that appeared in RBW4 out of nothing.

Let's be optimistic, this might be the last year where AoE4 will cannibalize AoE2.

 

Single elimination would be terrible for this for all of the reasons above.

However, I do understand there might be certain time constraints to fit all of this into the time frame. Single elim just requires so much less time.

That being said, for a LAN event, a single elim bracket just seems a bit ridiculous.

TaToH said a few weeks back that after qualifying for aoe2 that he would be attempting to go for aoe4 too. Too much money on the line not to IMO.

I'm objective, he is playing very bad ( for his standards ) .

 

Now that Vinch has qualified, RB should make a backup plan in case he won't be able to attend. The EU is under heavy pressure to ban Russian visas.

If they haven't done it yet, seems unlikely they'll do it now. For EU, it's back to business as usual now.

Worst case scenario all the heavyweight clashes happen before semis. This seems like bad business, especially if you have one whole day for semis and finals.

Viper mentioned that the players in age 4 were also against single elimination. With that in mind, if they change to something other than single eliminations, they'd have to do it for both games, which further complicates matters.

 

Hopefully the ban will kick in ASAP

 

Single elimination is a damn joke, ESPECIALLY for a LAN event. WTF !!

In before we see wack seedings ruin it even further than single elimination already does.

Border crossing between Finland and Russia was opened last month after a year of COVID restrictions. That's why the pressure is mounting now because Russians can travel to Europe via Finland. I doubt that it will happen because Germany is pretty much against it, but it's something to keep in mind so that it won't come as a surprise if it will happen.

I'm objective, he is playing very bad ( for his standards ) .

Well I would kind of agree he is playing bad, but at same time he still barely lost to Viper(2:3) and lost to Yo 1:3, won against Vivi 3:2. He had some really terrible games, but I think some of those games were because of he doesn't know maps. He was asking memb about Low Tides map, as he didn't play it ever before. Which doesn't excuse much either, honestly I'm quite tired of those "I didn't know map" excuses, like you signing up to play for money, should check them out. However aside my opinion about preparation not knowing map definetily affects game play and overall his results are quite fine. Just kind of felt like many of his games were like he either loses in feudal and resigns either he wins, kind of one sided games, but again, ending up 2:3 against Viper is still great result even if Viper might not be in his best shape yet, but he did beat Yo would say quite easily in some sets against Yo lately. So concistency is not there, but he still competing with top 3 players and give him arabia and he will do that even better.
