Interesting and probably reasonable, now games will not be too long. Does Time limit allow relic or wonder victory?

Zero empires as host and robo as admin

T90 Dave and Nili casting the main event.

Any chance of reaching out to the non English speaking streamers and get them to cast the main event in their own languages too. I think that would be good for the community.

Totally agree, I would rather watch this in my mother tongue. Hopefully this can be sorted out

I think the victory condition based on score might backfire. After all in late imp it usually involves taking bad fights to push your enemies base which is losing you score. So what if someone has a 3k score lead after 40 minutes. What is his incentive to end the game when the rules do it for him? The smart thing would be to camp and let your enemy come at you since he is the one who must close the gap in score.

nili said on stream, that in arround 100 test games they had no time victory game at all.

Feeling really bad for Memb here... He was instrumental in keeping the game up when it was at its lowest stage and now it just seems so unfair for him when AOE is at its highest.

Just to be clear, AoE2 was at its lowest in 2006-2012 right? i.e between MSN Games shutdown, and the release of the Userpatch/AoE 2 HD in 2013?

Please, some day you will take seriously the latam and Spanish community? We need to have at least one caster to our people, there are many talented and well prepared people for the job, check on youtube: Mundo AOE - The manko - Nacho AoE - Locoser. I suppose that you want to keep breaking audience records and that could be the reason to have just one guy streaming, but our community sometimes have to resign to see the games in a lenguage that it's not our own.. sorry for my English, I hope you consider this!

Players will be seeded based on the average of their current & highest 1v1 rating as said in rules

Regarding the settings: I really love empire wars - fast paced games with action from the very start. There are some maps which can become a bit stale due to empire wars setting though, we'll see if that is actually a case during the tournament.

However, I heavily dislike the civ draft idea, especially when I look at the map pool. There are several maps in the pool where one or two civs are way better than the others, so this could result in quite a few games being civ wins. In my humble opinion, a draft is only fair for mono-map tournaments. Now I don't have the weight to say that it should be hidden pick no repeat instead of a draft, but I hope the experts have been consulted before making this decision and majority of them, if not all, agree with it being a civ draft.

Yeah as someone who generally prefers drafts to hidden pick, I do worry that there will be a lot of civ wins here. Mirrors are more often than not really boring to watch, but are still likely more entertaining than watching Indians/Mongols/Chinese clap every other civ on certain maps.

Whenever I say civ drafts are better than hidden pick, it is always with the caveat that the map pool is one that is (almost) entirely standard maps, where civ wins are very unlikely.

The other problem with drafts is that they take up a lot of time, so I hope that these drafts will be done ahead of the games being played so players can have time to develop strategies, as well as smooth out the broadcast.

There is a significant difference between practice games and tournament games for 20k.
I remember an Arabia game between Tatoh and Liereyy where towards the end both were sitting back and stacking upgrades for score and Liereyy won because of heated shot on a land map. And those games had a way shorter timer without the head start of empire wars where players still had gold and there was gold on the map to fight for. So there is a way bigger incentive to do stuff while in a trash war that goes away.

Only way to make sure only 4 civs are not played like on Hidden cup 3

If drafts end up being done live, why not put them on a chess clock instead of a fixed timer? If each player lets their fixed 30 second pick time run almost completely through, we could be looking at up to 11 minutes per civ+map draft per bo5 set. If you give each player a time pool of say, 2:30 for civs and 1:00 for maps, you cut that down to 7 minutes with much more incentive to pick quickly.

wow we just saved 4 minutes and gained a ton of players being unable to make their picks on time
is that really what we want?

I don't think it's that punishing, since at the start of a draft a player should be able to pick their most obvious top civs within a few seconds and leave all the rest of the time for thinking about the second tier civs, so the time pressure is not that severe.

Besides that, I feel like people showing up to big tournaments with zero clue what their draft strategy is has gone on long enough. For a $20k tournament is it so bad for people to play a couple hours of test games and write their first and second choice civs in a spreadsheet? They are basically begging to lose anyway if they won't do a tiny bit of homework.

If that is the intention, then there are better ways to do it than a civ draft.

The draft should just not be a part of the cast, should be done ahead of time.

I believe that unless something is done to clean up the BS in these forums and quell the whiners, and constant bitch fests, AOEZone will fast become irrelevant to the AOE2 game.
