Hello AoEZone community.
Today i wondered why only in Esports players use their username instead of their real name.
I think, it is kind of a internet/gaming thing.
My initial thought, why i decided to write this post, was that It kind of feels unprofessional.
In every other sport you know... (I do not know any other sport where you don't know...) the real name of the players.
Imagine the Olympic games where * wins the 100m sprint.
(* insert a random username here)
With the prize pools in tournaments rising and since the real player names are already known to a lot of fans (https://liquipedia.net/ageofempires/Main_Page)
i think that, it might be a good idea to switch to using real names instead of usernames.
Most player introduce themselves anyway with their real names in interviews (e.g. RBW4).
Also it kind of feels "unreal" referring to the players with their username instead of their real name.
I guess, one of the biggest counterargument is that these players are currently mainly known
by their username.
Just wondered what you all are thinking. And maybe most importantly, what the pros are thinking about publishing
their real names even more.
Greetings, ulysses... or J.T. =)
