RBW5 - Player Update

Was it poor risk management (i.e. short sighted) or lack of transparency that players (and viewers) were not aware what would happen if someone could not go? Even the knowledge before hand would make this decision appear more fair as players could prepare accordingly.

I actually had raised the question, if any European players would be on standby list in case someone can't make it. What if another player misses out because of travel issues even closer to the start of the tourney? Is it going to be 11 players only? Or is someone else going to be on stand by? I hope the organizers think about this.

Gunners got to play in the europa league despite finishing below the wolves, as they won the FA cup.

(Tho the wolves would have got the spot if gunners finished top 4, slightly different from the rbw5 situation.)

So what tournament did capoch win to qualify him for these finals? Ahh right, he didn't win anything at all so the situations are hardly comparable.

Let's be honest, if any football league had a system as awful as this red bull/chrazini duo, there would literally be riots in the streets.

Personally I am grateful for Red Bull and that they are hosting this tournament. As a viewer this will be awesome to watch.

A lot of people on this forum act extremely entitled, like Red Bull owe you to make a tournament after your personal wishes.

Again, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

Why does the FA cup winner which actually wins something have to play in the europa league instead of the ECL?

Ever herd of the community shield? Thats a match between the league winner and the FA cup winner. Should the #2 team or the league cup winner complain about not playing?

And even if a team got relegated, they still get to play in the cups mentioned above, is that unfair to the teams with better standings then?

I deeply regret ACCM cannot make it to Germany :/ but I am even more disapointed about the numerous negative comments about that event. It is unfortunate some players cannot attend the event because of the pandemy but we finally have a LAN event. Organised in an amazing castle and sponsored by international companies. After all those months of pain, here is a thinning.

About the selection of Capoch, I would have preferred a BO7 between Barles and Kasva. That decision is very surprising. Considering the RBW performance does not make sense outside of the top 10. Capoch finally only one good performance in the serie...

Do the players that were in the main event yet cannot make it due to the covid situation get compensated in some way? at least the minimum prize of $3k.
It sucks as they could have obviously made it further than 9th-12th but at least it's something.

Edit: Also the choice of players is kinda weird yea, why not base the next picks based on this qualifier that was just played instead of using arbitrary ratings from all past qualifiers which heavily favours long time players who participated in many redbull events rather than most recent performance and results from Redbull V.

Not only that but they messed up with their own system by not even contacting Dogao lmao so what is even going on behind the scenes

The more questions you ask the clearer you make it that these situations have very little in common. The key difference is that these rules are long-standing, clear, and agreed to in one case, and in the other case, none of the above.

I for one think past RBW performance should mean more than qualifiers, remember the red bull main player pool is much higher skilled than qualifiers, consistent performance there probably counts for much more. Barles and Kasva(no disrespect to them, they are both mighty good players) probably went as far as they did since so many big names not playing the qualifiers, some Brazillians and Chineese players.. it will be weird to just pick on merit of this performance alone.. that being said, I dont think there is a right way to do this, in the end what the sponsors and team decides is what matters..

Long-standing? So nothing is legit becoz everything is not long-standing at the first beginning. And just becoz something is long-standing doesnt make it fair (or not fair). There are still people complaining about university offers / job offers / tournament spots / etc til today.

Sure they can change the rules to something like "If the invited players cant attend, their spots will be passed on to the well-performed players in qualifiers", or "hold qualifiers all from the start again" or even more wild like "we just cancel the spot and play with 11 players". Every single option will have people to complain, theres never a 100% objective way to settle the dispute.

We didnt hear anything from dogao (and max even tho it seems he didnt plan playing anyway) yet.

And I dont see anything special (or wrong?) for getting an invitation despite losing in the qualifiers, there are **** ton of people who cant get to uni even with better public exam results than some athletes who get conditional offers.

Hi, it is my understanding that ACCM cannot make it to the tournament. Capoch has received an invitation for that reason. However, I faced Capoch in the qualifiers and beat him. I ended up third and was close to qualifying. Could you elaborate why me or Barles were not considered? Wouldn’t you invite Jordan if I were to qualify? Don’t get me wrong, but I quit my job and I’m spending significant time to compete at top level.

Absolutely agree on you as a natural candidate for an invite. If anything maybe it should've been determined by a quick BO5 series between you and Barles. That would've been extremely hype and entertaining to watch. Anyways, enjoyed your games and keep up the grind. There are more events ahead and I'm sure you will place quite good judging by your recent performance! Cheers

There are plenty of admin that are not originally from Europe (robo, lord patito, huehue to name a few. Not counting countless one in other events)
Generally admins start by just volunteering, and they rise because they do a good job.
You organise nothing, do nothing to help, and thinks you're entitled to a vote.

Guys, you need to relax. Stop asking questions about fairness or competitiveness, when Red Bull is the organizer. This company invests in all sports and esports possible to brainwash every person in the world, that their unhealthy sugar water enhances sport performance and is somehow a good product, instead of giving heart problems and a higher diabetis risk.
When you have such an organizer, who puts willingly peoples health at risk for profit (there are enough cases about energydrinks and their side effects, no discussion needed), you can't expect a tournament for the love of (e)sport, in our case AoE2. This whole event is one big advertisement, nothing more. And how do you ensure the biggest audience and viewernumbers possible?
You hype it with enough money on the one hand, and invite players with a big community name on the other hand to ensure good games. And you can get a community name in 2 different ways. Either you're a legend of this game and everyone knows you or you simply made a name in prior red bull tournaments, so the viewers know you and red bull have the certainty, this player can compete and people like to watch him. And here you have your answer, why Capoch is being invited instead of a player, who beat him in the qualifier. Because he already played in a red bull tournament and most of the viewers will know him, while Kasva is outside the deep aoe community unknown to the majority, especially to red bull viewers and that bears a risk for the organizer, who only wants advertisement.

Also a shoutout to hearttt, who speaks the truth. You wont find many other big community names here, because many of them are a part of the tournament and will keep silent for the paycheck, no matter what.
It's like Memb said, he was sad he wasnt invited in the first tournaments and spoke not too well about them, but when he became a part of it, only good words started to come out that we have to be grateful, such a big sponsor helps AoE and so on. The same now with Capoch. You get invited, you shut up and take the money. It doesnt matter if its a rushed invite only tournament. So just accept it and move on.

The good thing is, that this will probably be the last Aoe2 tournament with rb as organizer, since they will immigrate to Aoe4.
