I wish Viper had some words for Lierrey too but super happy for him. And well deserved too.

He was obv. emotional after the last year and a half he's had with the wrists and no major solo tournament victories

Great series, great tournament. Fantastic experience for all of us. Great to see Viper win of course, Liereyy seemed almost unbeatable. Back to work now when this is over I guess..

Gonna go back and watch the full Hera MBL set in the week, that just have been absolutely crazy..

What an AMAZING tournament, in pretty much every aspect. Massive congratulations to TheViper, and also well played Liereyy, and all the other players.

This tournament was pretty much perfect in my opinion. Obviously the dust has not settled yet but seriously, hats off to everyone involved in the organisation. I wanted to do a quick rundown of the different elements in a similar style to the player profiles.

Tournament Format: 9/10. The group stage produced some absolutely crazy games, and maybe the best of the bunch was Barles vs Nicov, a game which might not have happened with a different format. The single elimination weekend was also just right.

Gameplay: 9/10. Not every series was a showstopper, obviously, but there was hardly a day where I didn't think "This is the series of the tournament". My picks are probably the final, MbL vs Hera in the quarters, and Nicov vs Barles. It feels like we say it every tournament but that was some of the best age of empires I've ever seen. The players got better each day too, as they became accustomed to the LAN format.

Production: 10/10. Technical difficulties which were no fault of their own handled professionally, filler content was entertaining, Riley hosted like a champ as usual, costumes, lights, sounds, music, overlays, observing, everything was on point. I personally find the suit and tie with earpiece style of production of the big LoL tournaments for example super cringey, and I'm glad that's not the route they went down for this one. It would not be fitting for the game or the community.

Viewership: 9/10. I don't know how many viewers were watching the final, people in chat were saying different things like 60k, 70k. But it was definitely alot combined across all streams, at least there were 40k or so on the main English twitch stream. Compared to a couple of years ago that's ridiculous. One thing I would be interested in is cumulative hours watched, because there were about 20k people constantly during the weekdays, who I reckon watched all 10 hours each day. Maybe we can get some stats on that, but yeah I was glued to it all week. Obviously that is a testament to the quality of the tournament.

Things I would change:
- Prizepool distribution maybe a little flatter
- Overlays ready on day 1 for the draft (not really the biggest deal, we could still see everything)
- Thought Masmorra's interviews were good, not sure why he left but hope it's all OK. I thought Brittany did a good job though - I didn't really need to hear somebody ask "why did you build a scorpion instead of a mangonel in Game 3" or something anyway.

Overall, superb tournament, thank you.

Final couldn't have been any better, not just the games itself but everything around it.

Viper as the greatest AOE2 player of all time, struggling in RBW and generally in big events over the last year. And on the other side the kid Liereyy, widely regarded as current #1, and especially seen as by far the best EW player winning 2 RBWs and making another final he barely lost to Daut.

After a bit of an unspectacular but tight set in the group stage that Liereyy took they met again in the final and delivered an incredibly close series with a final game that could've gone either way. Honestly i thought Viper was dead and out but then Liereyy didn't put his castle age advantage into military and Viper somehow held on without losses and came back, eventually cornering Liereyy completely and taking it in classic Viper fashion. Crazy game, crazy series, and overall great event.

Using your palm to indicate which map / civ you are picking instead of pointing with your finger / pen makes it waaaaay better on the "order" receiveing end.

Thats something people should bear in mind if they want a better career path. Every single detail matters and adds up.

Just watch the finals drafting process, then imagine you are one of the vils. I bet youd feel more "respected" as vipers vil. Not that everyone cares or has hard feelings, but you lose nothing for doing so.

I guess it also has something to do with the arm? Like when we point, our arms are usually more straight and placed in a higher position, making it more bossy / commanding.

Then again, context / practicality also plays a role of course. Using your palm for objects miles away isnt really a good idea 11

Thanks! I could confirm I heard Forest of Dreams. How do you manage to find it? These songs are so hard to recognize with apps like SoundHound.

Pointing with a finger/a sharp object like a pen is an aggressive move that triggers alarm and defense insticts in us (subconsciously). Showing the palm is a general accepted sign of peace (as it shows there is nothing hidden) and thus instinvtively allows us to relax. If one receives orders in one of the two ways, the accompanying instinctive feelings change how we perceive the orders/directions
