Hey guys, so lets talk about the games we had today, here my summary of the day:

Lierrey vs Nicov
I was impressed by Nicovs performence. Probably everyone expected a 2:0, but Nicov really delivered here and could've won the whole thing. Lierrey looked not that happy after the game and I would judge Nicovs performence one of the heighest of the people who lost.

Villese vs Jordan
Was impressed by Jordans performence, looked very ready, very sharp, Was just outplaying Villese which is no easy feat and is usually only achieved by the top 4 players. Villese on the other hand appeared prepared but did not perform to his potential. Very interested in the next matches of those players.

MBL vs Barles
In Empire Wars MBL had much more problems with Barles than in RM and this did not show in this series at all. MBL pretty much clapped Barles and had one of the most convincing victories of the day. He looked prepared, he practised as mentioned by Memb. MBL could really play a dark horse role in this event.

Vinchester vs Slam
Very well played by Vinchester, was a bit underwhelmed by Slam though. Arbalests with only Fletching is pretty ayayay. Hope Slam can recover, excited for more Vinchester series!

Hera vs Tatoh
One of the best series of the day, especially because of the last game. Amazing display by Hera there. Very good game from Tatoh in game one, but Hera just outmacroing in Game 2 and 3, even having very nice quickwalls in the last game, fighting off the early pressure. Hera looked sharp, very good performence by Tatoh as well. PS: Vikings are stupid.

Daut vs Capoch
For me this set showed how stupid Eagles are in Empire Wars, sure, Daut did not do the best job defending them, but to think that pure Eagle play without eco upgrades whatsoever can beat Indians is a bit stupid. Very good set though, but it felt like Daut did not play to his full potential.

Viper vs Dogao
Total Domination from Viper Game one with Dogao coming back in game two nicely. Game 3 was pretty one sided with a good eco approach unfortunately, but all in all the series was close and delivered. Viper looked good and Dogao looked threatening for loads of players.

Players that posively surprised me:
1: Nicov
2: Jordan
3: MBL

Players that I expected more of:
1: Slam
2: Daut
3: Villese

Casters: Don't want to get into much detail here, but shoutout to Ornlu and Lidakor, who did a fine cast on the B-Channel. A channel was all around great as well. Looking forward to the rest of the days.

Nicov, Tatoh played really well. Practiced MBL might actually be scary, wonder how he fares against Lierrey.

And yeah I think we haven't seen the best from Villese, Slam and Daut today.

Tomorrow's series are all closely matched, I'm already excited :D

They do, but they are drafting on a table with physical icons and people who move them for them

In my opinion its just not as easy to follow as the online drafting we are used to.

But I get the idea, and I kinda like it. Just feels messy

Great tournament, great production, great games. Nothing to complain about, just looking forward to the next set of games!

O course it's an amazing tournament and it shows the great work made by Redbull... but I don't understand why not to show one of the game with the others during the main stream? It's due to schedule? Because it's a pity missing some great matches, for example Nicov vs Villese seems a great show.

Lierrey vs Nicov
I was impressed by Nicovs performence. Probably everyone expected a 2:0, but Nicov really delivered here and could've won the whole thing.

At first I thought so too, but looking how much problems pikes caused to Nicov in game 3, I feel like the loss was just a big misplay from Lierrey. He opted to go for monks instead of pikes, which makes sense as aztecs, but then lost way too many of them basically for free. If he had kept them better protected or go for pikes to begin with I think the game would have looked very different.
Maybe it was too late after going for the monks and the eco was not there for Lierrey to still tech into pikes, but it felt a bit stubborn. Either way, of course still great performance from Nicov, and the third game looked quite close to, where I think the turning point was nicov switching sides of agression, away from the western TC, not trusting his micro against the lierreys mangonels and till this point had put up some really good pressure.

Yeah good idea, sloppy execution. Table is too small, icons are washed out, and the background image is very distracting.

Wait, are they casting all the games or just the one set?

I assume they are casting all sets that are not cast on the main channel, so one set a day during group stage. Should be Nicov-Villese today (since it is played at the same time as dogao-TaToH).

My guess would be it has something to do with the last minute expansion of the field from 12 to 14 players. Maybe they could only rent the room for a certain number of hours each day so there was not time to accomodate an extra series by lengthening the schedule? Someone involved with production like @nimanoe would have to confirm.

The schedule was indeed already set before they expanded the event and they didn´t want to make it longer. I´m not sure what the exact reason is, but given that production is already working a lot of hours, it makes a lot of sense

i want to be really honest with you guys, first game from liereyy, was probably one of the worst game he ever played, i dont think nicov did anything special. liereyy just played full titanic once in a lifetime. still gj from nicov winning the game vs a clearly stronger opponent, but i feel like it's 90% liereyy fault

holy ****, this last game was absolutely insane!!! Went so back and forth and would never expect that Viper would still take the set after Hera's relentless pressure. Best set of the tournament so far, and that last game was indeed one of the best games I've seen this year.

No rest for the weary, Viper goes against Lierey tomorrow. After today I have to consider him a real contender to win the whole thing but tomorrow will tell us a lot too.

Also, I dislike the webcams, screen is giving me claustrophobia. I understand people want webcams (do not agree, as they are expressionless 90% of the time), but seems the webcam screens could be smaller.

The match-ups are random (within each group with the same amount of series won), so Buchholz doesn't have much to do with it. Buchholz is only used at the end of the group stage to rank the players.
