The main event is right around the corner, and after some fantastic qualifiers, we have all our players ready to battle it out.
We have an incredible four new players participating in the main event for the first time, which is sure to shake things up and create a very exciting tournament.

I love the tautology of Villese's team and country

 

First time in a while that we haven't seen Tatoh in a major tournament, as far as I recall.

Groups A and D are formidable. Do not envy those players. Gl hf to all!

Quick question: is it normal that Group B has two top 4 finishers from the last Red Bull (Liereyy and ACCM), while Group C has none?

I feel like all previous events had made sure to split the top 4 finishers from the previous one - even RBW 1 had the top 4 finishers from Hidden Cup 3 (Viper, dogao, TaToH, Hera) split in four different quarterfinals.

It feels a bit unfair to ACCM and Liereyy.

 

I assume they just prioritized making sure each group had two invited players and didn't really consider things beyond that. This is only the second time they've included a group stage at all.

Group B and C IDK. They are all strong players.

I think its been 2 from previous top 8 and 2 from qualifiers, everything else being random. Before they had group stage, it was any one coming from qualifiers vs any one from top 8 ( everything else random ). I disliked that approach on the first two iterations itself but after seeing how empire wars was so competitive, I kinda was okay with it.

That could have been because they actually delayed the 2nd semi and played live due to ACCM's or rather Vietnam's internet outage ;-)
Anyway, I'm also not too concerned about that..

How are they similar? VA LAS and VILE SE ? Perhaps casters pronouncing them incorrectly but they aren't that similar xD

Idk if in finish you pronounce the final e. In spanish you do (but you don't either in French or english).

Yeah the final e is pronounced.
Vil - le - se. Zuppi for instance on his stream has pronounced the name correctly many times for reference.

Tbh it sounds like an English speaking problem. In no other language would those names sound any similar.

 

Mistake of the casters.
Villese correctly is pronounced V ( like the letter xD ) + LE + SE.

Of all the casters in aoe2? Jupe had it right as well.

 

It might not sound correct, but it is usual for casters and commentators to mispronounce names from a different country than the one spoken by said caster/commentator. Just as daut and dogao are also mispronounced, but no one mentions it.

You know, half of the times when the casters mispronounce or joke about how the names are so similar that he is getting confused - they are doing it deliberately because they think it's funny for the viewers. It's content.

If they really want to get it right, they could just ask the players or anyone from Finland before the games about how it's pronounced, and then they would realize it's not that similar-sounding.

 

For a commenator, mispronouncing a player's name is either due to incompetence or indifference.

 

Well, Group D seems to be a gift to Hera. The rest of the brackets are pretty even.
