The reason why we are in this situation after aoe4 is because of monotonous play. 1v1 arabia all the fking time! Majority of player base love TGs, and wants more TG content. Yet, biggest tournament is a Arabia tournament with a map gen so aggressive and so bad. It is refreshing to see pros playing ladder TGs, and lobby BF and nomad games.

Every major game except CS has MM system similar to what we have. Bans and an inability to choose a specific map. On top of that we have a limited player base. I really wish the devs implement a unlimited ban or opt-in system just so that I can see aoe2 implode.

If you're really looking to have a conversation then keep aside emotion and try to understand the situation. Don't just keep on yelling the same stupid thing again and again like a monkey.

There is so much joy in playing with and against people of similar skill who know and like the map you are playing on. This is completely gone in current MM. TGs are worst hit, I still dodge the maps I don't like but it's a time waste for everyone.

If I main arena, I would like to play with and against people who know how to play arena and not just some random who despises arena but is forced to play.

The Amigos BF discord solution seems to be the working one, all pros are on it for TGs. Even in past pros played TGs on custom lobbies and not MM.

This solution works for that small group of pros and streamers but for general population ranked lobbies or opt-in MM is the only solution.

I'm not an Arabia player, I would play TGs on arena, BF, nomad. That's what I like.

Secondly you don't get bans, you get a single ban if you solo queue 4v4 which is the problem and why I have to dodge.

What is your argument against opt-in system because it does allow you to pick the maps you want. So if you like Socotra, for sure you can only queue for Socotra and also multiple maps if you like more.

you said variety is necessary (for you) but there are many who do not share the same view, in addition everyone has different idea of variety they like. Thats fine as long as people can exercise their choice. Getting to ban a single map for a 4v4 is not exercising your choice.

I'm seeing a pattern in all the arguments against freedom of picking the map. Its players who have felt wronged either by the wait times or the idea that they deserve to have a higher rating than players that are worse than them on a larger variety of maps and/or situations. Both are understandably just and true things. however, the point of the ladder isnt to seed who is better in a tournament with variety settings. the ladder is a mathematical code designed to let the best two ratings on 1 map play on that 1 map. the map and civ variety is to large to give you a variety rating at the highest level. Your best civ on your best map is your best potential self, none of the other variety of maps and civs can give you a more perfect song to sing. LET US SING OUR SONGS LET BRITNEY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I used to play arabia 1v1 a lot in voobly. In DE I stopped because of MM. I am just tired of facing same two/three civs on four lakes or hideout or arena... I moved to TGs because of this, but also because I want to relax not grind.

In TGs I picked arabia as preferred. Yet, my most played map is Arena with 63 games, followed by arabia 45 games and megarandom (**** this map seriously) at third with 15 games. Honorable mention to BF with 14 games. Claiming that you can set preference to your favorite map and play it all the time is wrong assumption. Claiming that there is any map diversity is false as well, since Arabia, Arena, BF, Nomad and LN were most popular map already during Voobly period. Especially, if all other maps are being changed during months.

And lets not forget that position picking, another fault implemented by DE makes it hundreeds times worse. It kills "civ diversity" as well.

Lastly, pairing players with vastly different rating is beoynd my ability to comment politely.

One more problem rarely talked about is people being AFK during queue and then resigning 10 minutes into the games, ruining like 15 to 20 minutes of peoples time.

I learned not to dodge maps and accept this **** but lets not pretend that this MM system is to benefit AoE2. Also a little bit of respect for old players should be in place. Wihtout them there would be no DE at all.

Discord for lobby games seems like a suboptimal solution for a problem with a matchmaking system.

There are servers where people play BF/nomad/arena lobbies - maybe you should try jointing them rather than wasting 7 other people’s time

the reason you don't get that many arabia games in TGs is because arabia is one of the the most-banned TG maps

can't even blame people for banning it tbh. the average player's experience is getting 1v2'd against smurfs on voicechat and then the game being over a couple minutes into feudal age.

most of my ara games happened when i queued with a party and the other team was also a party and banned whatever we favorited


or they could add a separate calendar for some of the unbalanced maps:

that way you can still play one of them, but without wasting everyone else's time or getting timeouts.

I do feel a good starting point would be to improve the map pool so that we get a more balanced range of maps each pool, rather than swinging from the extreme 4 Arabias to 4 clown maps or similar. Would mean that, on a pool-to-pool basis, players would be more likely to have a couple of maps which are palatable.

Maybe something like this would work:
Arabia
Arena
BF [TG only]
Open map (eg gold rush)
Closed map (eg hideout)
Water map (eg islands)
Hybrid map (eg kawasan)
Other map (eg socotra, nomad etc)
Nomad (eg Nomad, land nomad, African clearing) [TG only]

would then be a balanced map pool every time and we could see a much better spread of maps being utilised each rotation.
Potentially could see a vote per section so we don’t end up with the same map pool becoming stale.
Probably also a good way to introduce people to new maps. For example if they enjoyed playing the hybrid map in the last rotation, they’ll be more willing to give the next one a go even if it’s a new map to them.
