yes, sometimes just to micro is much better than to patrol (ie. 20 xbo vs 10 kts)
overall, thinking/being in the moment and adapting is the best thing you can do.
when you GB from a big fight, where your units are patrolled, you need to stop your units, and THEN gb. putting no attack stance can help a lot (but don't forget to take it off later 11)
@bokisergy: the point for SG patrol and then switch to A is: your units all get closer to enemy, get more bunched up, and they still TARGET the enemy (as opposed to No Attack stance). so when they are where you want them to be, you switch to Aggressive stance.
@wakko: guard is great to use when you are the supporting range. here's an example: 30 xbow + 30 kt vs 30 xbow + 30 kt. when you two engage in a fight, guard your SAFEST xbow. your units will take less "breaks" between shooting, same as in patrol, HOWEVER they will start fighting right away, instead of needing to wait to TARGET an enemy unit.
they re-target units faster though, ie. when the enemy unit they were targeting dies, they have less idle time, and switch to another right away.
as for the grouping thing.. they move on top of each other, which allows your army of close combat guys to all attack, instead of sit back and wait for room to open up.
Basically you'll get 100% men attacking when you want (if done properly) instead of half your army being idle for 5-10 seconds, which is crucial in the first hit.
patrol act of moving about an area especially by an authorized and trained person or group, for purposes of observation, inspection, or security.the activity of going around or through an area at regular intervals for security purposes. protection the activity of protecting someone or something the witnesses demanded police protection
airborne patrol. patrol provided by aircraftround-the-clock patrol a continuous nonstop patrol.
Nice guide, I haven't seen it before.
One question about that
[quote="
In order of strength, patrolling goes like this:
Aggressive > Defensive > Stand Ground > and last is obviously, No Attack.
Therefore, aggressive is the main stance that you will use in most of your gaming.

If I read good this simple mean that f.e 20 CAs (patrol on agressive) > 20 CAs (patrol on stand ground)? If so I didn't know about it 11 Or I just read it in wrong way.
well yes and no.. problem with stand ground is: units can be idle unless they target someone from within their patrolling spot...
so you can have a fight, and 10 guys will keep 'patrolling' but not fighting
aggressive, they will all fight, BUT if u attack 20 tight patrolled cA on SG using 20 on aggressive, you will probably lose (he will get first shot, his army are grouped tightly together, your army have to make a surround, etc...)
best advice i can give to you is: try it out. you will see it far better than with me explaining with words
Tnx again Ares ^^ I would ask a question: Do u know about guarding(I dunno what is default hotkey but probably G)? I never used it in game, and didnt see anyone use. But I would like to know more about it, is that good for anything Btw, things I found in ur guide(s) helped me a lot^^
Guard works best for ranged units. Makes them fight 'instantly' and have no idle time. that's similar to patrol. difference is: with guard your, no matter what stance your guys were in, it's like they are in super aggressive. if the target runs away, they all chase, but slowly and really stupidly...
so if someone guards, you engage, gb, then repatrol into it and it's gg the guard stance guy
but it's a great command! i use it a lot. try it is best...
Just wanted to add to that guard point, say for something like hitting and running with arch vs kts. Even though it's better to try aim each kt to kill as quickly as possible there is a risk of misclicking and walking your archers right into the kts. By moving your archers back and then pressing x and clicking an archer you will attack the group of kts quickly and without risk of misclick and keep doing this over and over.
Well,it s a great article....but i want to notice that i was playing aok and came to aoc, so at aok patrol works same with any stance(stand ground etc..) then i understand patroling at aoc is different and it took me time to used on it :S
i think this question is a guide for all of us( begginers)
for example in DM hunz war;
halberdiers, cav. archers and paladins; let them a group
halberdiers are and paladins agressive and cav. archers stand ground...
cavaliery archers and paladins guard halberdiers and then patrol them
and the best one is line formation (not staggered formation)
IS THIS RIGHT?????????
i'd only use guard on ranged units.
ie when you have 20 xbow, or in DM case, 40 HCA... when they are behind pala/halb
pal/halb i'd just patrol
but even the CA, you're probably better off patrolling. if it's a big fight, patrol them to the sides (not forward into enemy halb/pala)
staggered gives greater coverage/spread right off the bat. i mostly used it to catch some enemy units that i think may be where you don't see it... but most of the time it's the default group formation that i use.
REally ROx article Geen! Thank u for sharing ur knowledge about this game. I got couple of questions.
1- In CA wars, 30 Ca vs 30 CA, what should i do? GUard, SG patrol, or Agressive patrol? I ussually use SG but my units since to move in the middle of the fight through opponent units. When u wanna patrol units in SG u must put patrol first and then put units on SG or u must put units on SG and then patrol? Or it's same?
2- When u having 20 kts vs 30 CA, should I patrol in defensive? SG and then change to Aggressive?
3. LAst, When u have 10-20 sc and 20 archer vs opponent same; how u patrol to get the most advantage?
