TL;DR
- full Aoe2 tryhard
- leaving because I want to compete in Microsoft tournaments ( wasn't allowed to as a coordinator )
- goal : 2x ro16 in S-tier tournaments within 18 months

Probably for the best given conflict of interest issues, I just hope we get someone as dedicated to the scene as Nili. No one can deny he loves aoe2 and is an integral part of the community. I hope someone similar is his replacement and not a random with no esports knowledge.

But how many people are there around who can do this as well as Nili or robo? I think it's not many. So maybe that's also why it takes longer for them to find one.

To be clear, I don't think they need to have the same stature or length of experience as Nili or Robo. Because, you are right, there aren't many of those people. What I would like is someone who has esports knowledge (can be from another game), and loves aoe2.

Well Chrazini got appointed to similar role relatively recently and is doing much better than Nili and Robo so clearly there are people capable of doing it.

He saw the opportunity and took it, but he had to carry all the hate cause of the bad decisions taken from his superiors, nili was supposed to be someone well respected while playing that role btw aoe2 community and microsoft, he had to sell us something that had no future cause he was told to do so, at this point after all the hate comments and people constantly blaming him he was no longer the right one to keep playing that role.

I hope he goes back to what he really liked, he was a good caster not overhyping every single action and mangonel shots.

Plenty of folks. Very few are ever given the chance.

The problem is that tournament coordination is often done by the community pro bono, but once you start scaling to a level where you need an FTE you also have to constantly justify the FTE -- which is hard to do sometimes to someone in a suit. Many folks eligible of being a tournament coordinator can probably make more money counting beans elsewhere imo.

Regardless of if I agree or not with the language used, I don't think the position(s) were ever necessarily about performance but retaining Nili in any capacity as AOE IV launched and the future was uncertain.

Retaining content creators during similar events in other games are seen as standard business practices, especially when the amount of them in AOE2 are so heavily gated.

I think a top-16 performance is actually in his skill-range. I will also say, he is a much better EW player than RM player (IMO) so would love to see him make a super-try-hard effort for RBW6.
Side note: somewhat surprised that he is focusing on AoE2, because I thought he was a pretty solid AoE4 player, and the top of that scene is much more in flux

He probably realized AoE 4 has "no future" (relatively to competitor) and he would be digging his own grave if he focused on AoE 4 long term, despite liking it more than AoE 2. Keep in mind he has insider knowledge about future plans of Microsoft and tournaments too. Despite that and his passion for AoE 4 he still chose AoE 2. That speaks volumes. I think we as fans can be finally calm and hopeful about what's coming next.
Other, not sure to what degree but certainly important aspect, is that most of his friends prefer AoE 2. I doubt it was the main reason though, Nili is too methodical for that, he definitely took into account all pros and cons and decided on what has the highest chance of being the best for him in next 18 months and longer.

Personally I'm glad about this decision because Nili was a very important piece of AoE 2 casting landscape that couldn't be replaced by anyone else. Looking forward to seeing more from him, both solo and in duos.

you make it seem like Satya Nadella himself came to AoEZone, read one of your many copy paste sentences and then decided make whole Microsoft wide policy that is specially targeted so Nili must either leave MS or not improve as player, which has never before been something you have been complaining in your copy paste sentences .+T90 and other caster&players have been doing same (competing in tournaments/showmatches they were part of) for years and you never complained for that. This policy is not about anything else. Just read part you are quoting. Nili could have continued as Tournament organizer, tournament host, tournament admin regardless of this new MS policy which is obviously very very unlikely because of Nili like you claim.

When has Nili been Tournament organizer, tournament host, tournament admin, tournament player, at the same time ? N4C(+co-hosted GL's Rise of the Elephants)I believe is his only own MS sponsored tournament(s) during MS time which he did not even participate as player.
