100%. It seems like people forget that it was nili who made nac possible and one of the most prestigious tourney series ,redbull wololo possible, its not even close to what nili has done for aoe franchise behind the scenes over these years.

It was always embarrassing for me reading AoE2 vs AoE3 wars on some forums.

It was mentioned in the Masmorra interview that Nili has a girlfriend. Thats probably why he seems more happy than usually

AoE3 was a disappointing release and AoE4's issues need no repeating. I think most fans of AoE2 wanted to like AoE3 but couldn't because of all the changes and subpar usage of 3D graphics. In the case of AoE4 it is positioned in a way that brings it into conflict with AoE2 so it is normal for people who prefer AoE2 and feel like their game is being attacked to respond to AoE4's struggles in a hostile way.

I don't think this is true?

Not sure about Nili taking prize pool from NAC3, but it would not be unreasonable to take a coordinator fee (although the primary motivation is usually channel growth). Nili has committed to publishing a full breakout of expenses etc for NC4, so as long as that transparency is real, we can see how the money is spent.

In NAC3, there was huge counter under the screen with every donated prize money, some part of it went to casters crew, overlay guy and Nili which is %3 for each. Additional he has public google file called nili goals all the jumps you see there as subcount and follower count are NAC tournament. If Nili has a bigger stream audience than membTV (I guess now Nili is behind again), he owes it to NAC tournaments.

That's wrong. People don't hate Viper who committed himself to AOE4 for a month, even earlier than others.

People hate 3 people:
1- Nili who used MS money effectively on AOE4, at some point there wasn't any AOE2 tournament with multiple AOE4 scheduled. He put it another level by just assigning himself biggest prize pool exist.
2- Vivi, instead of being sincere, he wrote a dramatic long post and blamed toxicity Chinese viewers (he is gonna stream AOE4 to same audience anyway) while leaving and returned back with a statement includes I need to earn money for hookers, nobody is donating me while playin AOE4.
3- Hera, who said he achieved everything in AOE2, that's why he is leaving.

I was enjoying AoE4, and im to weak to had money from it.
Enjoying something+ have money from this = good deal, for me.

Vivi didn't move from aoe2 to aoe4 because of money, he moved from aoe4 to aoe2 because of money.
Maybe he expected to earn more streaming aoe4 compared to before aswell, however how come you know this was his main reason instead?

Heras Post was questionable from the start, but it's Hera, his posts and opinion were always questionable, compared to that this is just cute.

Nili is doing his job, now we also know why he is commited to aoe4 even though he seems to be unhappy with the state of the game.
Looking at how much he plays/casts/trains I would honestly expect him to rly like the game, like no matter how much money he could have expected to earn, it wouldn't be worth it if he's only doing it for the money.

halo's a different situation. that game generates lots of traffic and cross-sells so many things

halo gets a new game every year or every two years. there are lots of microtransactions (most multiplayer game revenue is mtx now, even for pay-to-play games). and it leads to xbox live subscriptions, gamepass subscriptions, purchases of xbox consoles, purchases of xbox controllers, xbox headsets, purchases of other xbox games. microsoft gets a cut of everything. and on xbox digital store they keep 100% and people mostly pay full price, unlike on steam

an aoe2 fan being loyal on twitch doesn't translate to any additional revenue. you're valuable for individual streamers and amazon (twitch) and google (youtube), but not microsoft. even if you buy more steam games or a better graphics card or a better mouse, microsoft doesn't benefit

aoe2's situation is closer to starcraft. even though SC2 was a full-priced game with $40 expansions and some other DLCs and on a store with other games that gave 100% of revenue to blizzard, it wasn't enough. and starcraft even herded the viewers to their own channels (or the TO's channels) instead of letting random streamers get the bulk of the money, but it barely matters

i'm not saying there shouldn't be aoe2 tournaments, but i don't think $100K is reasonable. do some crowdfunding. hope for sponsors. get the streamers to fund more of it. but expect smaller prizes

I think people are missing the point of my post a bit. I wasn't trying to say aoe2 should get the same treatment as Halo. They are completely different games with different fanbases, trajectories, etc. What I was trying to explain is the approach that MS takes with their games is not consistent. I was responding to your post about how low the ROI was for sponsors of aoe2 events, which I disagree with given how little effort is put into most aoe2 events. I don't mean that the hosts don't work hard to put on events, I just mean that compared to other games which get entire studios working behind it and way bigger prize pools the investment in aoe2 for MS is basically giving $10-80k to a streamer and saying put on a good event. The ROI doesn't need to be insane because the investment is so low. You say MS gets nothing and the customer gets nothing, but that's just not true. I'm sure that MS saw a decent increase in people who purchased the DLCs because of how active the competitive side of the game was, and that would have also driven sales of aoe4.

I'm not even saying that $100k prize pools should be the norm, I'm just saying the entire system could be different if there was any actual thought put into the esports scene vs Nili just allocating money to various streamers as he sees fit.

You two realize that a not-insignificant amount of previous NAC funding came directly from the community right? Liquipedia may not acknowledge it, but the community donated tens of thousands of dollars to see NAC succeed, which it did. What's more many people on this forum and in this very thread support aoe2 in a variety of ways, hosting showmatches, running or admining tournaments, even just supporting small content creators.

t90 and theviper went to fb. They were the two biggest streamers for AoE but their move to Facebook made them pretty much irrelevant in the streaming-business.* So even if t90 and theviper have already stated that aoe4 is garbage and are both back to aoe, the aoe2 has still lost them in a way.


*Atleast I think so, it's more of a guess based on how empty Vipers chat is in his YT videos.

T90 never went to from aoe2 to aoe4, he only casted last rounds of Genesis and couple videos at launch(between all of his 14 aoe4 videos 3-2 months ago he made 15 aoe2 videos). viper and many else has also said aoe2 is in bad state in past ( or garbage if we take your interpretation ).

It's been mentioned publicly, can't point to a specific moment where I heard it but I have and I have no "direct source" into any company, just no life and watched almost every bit of RBWV coverage (from the final to the road trip to get to the castle)
