Hey everybody,
So in addition to obviously bringing in the new year, early January 2019 marks the 1 year anniversary of me becoming a streamer, so I thought it would be a good time to reflect on everything that AoE2 brought me in 2018 and to thank this community that helped me find my passion for AoE2 casting and analysis.
I started streaming a year ago pretty much on a whim - AoE2 has been my favorite game since I started playing it in 2001 when I was 4 years old, and I knew that there had to be something I could do for the community that kept this fantastic game alive for almost 20 years. So, that's why I started streaming and casting games. Having never done anything like this before, and having absolutely no talent when it comes to making graphics/overlays, I didn't really expect much from streaming. However to my surprise, my few viewers really seemed to enjoy my content and continuously supported me in continuing to stream...so I did just that. Eventually I grew a bit larger, refined my casting somewhat, and was given opportunities to cast with other streamers to give me more experience and get my name out there. Of course, ECL was announced and ZeroEmpires offered to have me come on from time to time, and that really helped focus my casting and gave me something to work on long-term. That combined with the overwhelming support I got to motivate me to keep going strong, eventually culminating with (combined with other factors) Nili inviting me to travel to cast NAC2 in February.
So yeah, that's kinda where I'm at right now, but I really just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everybody that's been so supportive of me in helping me develop this passion for casting/streaming. Before I started casting, I was just learning to cope with a fairly serious medical condition which pretty much made me tired all the time and prevented me from having a "real" job in addition to my rigorous studies as a full time student. Streaming not only gave me a "job" where I could schedule my own hours, but importantly gave me something positive to work on long-term, which has really made every other aspect of my life so much easier. Even though I am obviously still a very small streamer in the grand scheme of things, I couldn't have gotten to where I am today without the support of the people who were willing to show up to a stream with 5 viewers and endure my casting of the amazing matches we were lucky to witness this year. Finally, I want to thank all of the other casters/organizers/behind-the-scenes-people who have been so accepting of me and willing to go out on a limb to work with me. In short, this community is amazing!
2019 is going to be an amazing year for AoE2, and I am incredibly thankful to be a part of it. Cheers!
