That’s a nice story, but far from reality. First of all, the decision has to be made Memb and his team, likely after agreement with the very generous donor. If they organize a TG event that would produce some nice games by the top players (and it would), I’ll applaud them and be glad that we do have tournaments, 4k donation is massive. However, it’s not bringing much to the community. 4K prizepool for tournament lasting 5-7 weeks isn’t going to motivate players to practice that much, while they can play 1v1 showmatches lasting 3 hours for higher prize. I see 2 ways how to get TG scene rolling. 1) Really major TG non invitational tournament, announced 2+ months ago, that would motivate teams to practice TGs till death (WCL7, WiC, TTW..). 2) Or likely the best way - NC. Because the point of NC has always been to get many players and many games, teams would get lot more competitive sets (compared to 1 set qualification elimination stage). That would help teams outside of top 8 (Russia, Turkey, CZ, Italy, Netherlands) and also among top 8 (Suomi, Brazil, VNA, SY, CNA..). Then you can have highly competitive TG scene again. So DracKeN's valid points can be seen as we should really get some team game tournaments soon. Even if the first of them won't have a real competitive chance for the 4th-12th teams, it at least gives the players of those teams the chance to play some tg-tournaments again and revive the tg-szene. So that afterwards, after maybe a few more smaller tg-tournaments, there might be a chance for a bigger, competitive tg tournament again!
I’d just like to clarify I’m not saying 4k prizepool (even for TG event) is a minor thing, I just don’t find it too competitive atm, especially compared to 1v1 scene and the hype that has it right now. Once again, big thank to the anonymous donor and thanks to Memb for starting this discussion, I’m sure it brought some feedback to be used i the future by any tournament organizer.
