New tournament Suggestions

GoTA 2 plis, or 4v4 arena tourney, never seen that ever.

It’s simple. It has to be 1v1 due to Prizepool, hype, competition and DE issues. It has to be 1 classic map tournament, as other major tourneys are mainly promoting mappolls of weird maps not really played so far. It can’t be KotD as it’s in the plan too. It has to be Arena tournament. Keep in mind, that the meta for Arena is really not known, as we didn’t have a proper 1v1 Arena tournament since MoA3 - the most hyped tourney of the last decade. As I said, simple.

With the fix to chinese and mayans on no TC starts I think a tournament featuring no TC maps can be interesting.

Mix it up with water en non water maps:
- Nomad
- Land Nomad
- Steppe
- Bedouins
- Mountain pass
- Pilgrims

I think with a diverse selection of maps like these (or some new maps), a fine balance between water maps and land maps, we would see a good civ variety.

Of these maps I do prefer those with scattered resources (bedouins, mountain pass, nomad, pilgrims) over those where you spawn without the TC but with fixed resources around (LN, steppe) but I wouldnt mind a mix.

I honestly like TGs more, but in that case there should be some improvements to DE first:
- chat displayed
- better spectating overlay
- sling nerf

For rules we ofcourse need some enforcements:
- no vil fights beforte TC constructed
- players are offered the opportunity to restart when TCs are build in shootingrange within the first few minutes of the match.

I'm also hyped for a Masters of Megarandom, although I think the Megarandom map should receive some work. A few adjustments would make resource spawns more fair for both players, and a few unplayable maplayouts should be removed (like maps with literally no wood)

But I'll always vote for Masters of Megarandom 2, which has been my dream since 2016. Let me suggest some new rules:

All games played in Megarandom (or hiperrandom or whatever, but original megarandom is good so that viewers can relate to their own games).

All games start with random ressources (you get a random amount of each res, but it is the same for both players, there are no build orders and you have to adapt)

Castle age start for games 1 & 2 (dangereous no-tc starts, maybe some nomad rules)

Feudal age start for games 3 & 4

Dark age start for game 5.

Semis and Final at least Bo7 or Bo9.

The luck factor is going to be huge, but the abilities to adapt too. The longer the series, the more probable that luck factor distributes evenly.

Game 1: Random civ
Game 2: Looser decides if switch civs from game 1 or random again
Game 3: Random again or looser of game 2 can decide to switch civs from game 2 (if they haven't been already played)
Game 4: Random again or looser of game 3 can decide to switch civs from game 2 (if they haven't been already played)
Game 5: mirror random

Of course, Standard victory. I think wonders are balanced, but if you fear that it will only be wonder race in closed maps you can add a mod to reduce wonder's building defense or to make the timer longer

1v1 empire wars on land maps, bo3 (bo5 finale). I liked fair civs cup concept, so maybe something similar for civ/map picking. Maybe with some twist to it.

Masters of Arabia 2v2 for one of my favorite tournament's to watch reasons being:

• 3v3 or 4v4 we would get the same teams like we have seen in the past tournaments but with 2v2 the number of teams doubles.
• the settings for MoArabia were really nice, dont remember them all but we had one game with team random & say match ups like goth+japs ,etc and fixed civs for each round.

And we would get a break from 1v1's like most people suggested here.
2v2 seems like the preferred format most people here. Lets go Kreygasm

2v2 Nations Cup so that Viper has to team up with MBL (or Jordan if he is German now

But 2v2 feels so different from big the Nations Cups ('14, 15, 17). I know that the "2v2 World Cup" was a great tournament, but it had a really different feeling to it. So it should not replace a potential 3v3 or 4v4 Nations Cup. I would only be happy about a tournament like this, if there was no other Nations Cup in 2020.

I agree with 2v2 for a change from 1v1, but I would prefer other maps than what we just saw in NAC etc. during 2019-20. New maps to experience new strategies. Not as exotic as Mangrove Shallows, but recently unused or underused maps.

You can even frame it as a lead-up/hype tournament for the bigger KOTD 3.

You can use it for example to try out ideas/settings for KOTD3 - like you did with the civs can't be repeated first few matches, etc.

I suggest the "make your own Civ"- Cup: Each round will be a bo3 and the maps are arabia, arena and Medi/Cross. Before the tourney starts, each player selects 3 Civs. The deal is: You can change one civ bonus and one UT from your civ with one bonus and UT from another civ. Example:

Franks with the magyar attack bonus instead of faster working foragers and with Farimba instead of bearded axe.

Just wanted to share this, cause I had a lot of fun thinking about what pros would come up with, but i have no idea if this would even be entertaining let alone how much work this would result in, so forgive me my pleb ideas.


On a more serious note: I would love a 2v2 tourney or something like "masters of agression" with a open, agressive mappool (serengeti, chaos pit, land madness etc).

Like I said, you can change ONE civ bonus and ONE UT.
Now that i think about it, this could result into britons with saracen bonus damage against buildings AND obsidian arrows. This is scaring me. We probably shouldn't play God.

Or a tournament where everyone, say 32 players, can design one civ, with no restrictions whatsoever. Then those 32 civs form the civ pool and all games are played with random civ.

Actually, same could be done with maps as well. Call this: stupid maps and stupid civs Cup, or SMASCC

+1 for megarandom, on the condition that some work is done on the rms to remove uncompetitive generations etc. Or you could even use a different rms altogether - Zetnus' HyperRandom with some adjustments could have potential, for example.

This could easily be adapted to 2v2, and may be best for it. It's somewhat complicated but whatever. I actually already coded the score sheet in Excel, could easily throw it over to Google sheets if preferred.

In Empire Earth one of the main futures of the add-on was a "make your own civ" feature. Would be cool if there was a mod that allows us to do that.
