While I agree, that I would not be excited for an event with multiple AoE games in it, 12 players doesnt seem too few. RBW5 had 14 players, and if I remember correctly they had planned on only 12, but basically had excluded one player from the invites because they incorrectly assumed he couldnt attend because of COVID, so they ended up inviting him regardless and opened the qualifiers for an additional person.

Yeah 12 players is enough to run an event, but typically you want more than the number of players you need and then choose the best, rather than having that number of viable choices.
And I was maybe being a bit generous with who I counted too, basically counted anyone in gold league who is/was 2k1 aoe2 (plus hera) so people like recon, marinelord included

Tho I'm sure some of the AoE4 players who don't play aoe2 are capable of getting to that level with a few months (or vice versa), but it would undoubtedly be a big effort. Like especially those two spanish players are just beasts so i bet they could pick it up, and the other top players are obviously smart cookies. But it would need a lot of time and effort which would need a good lead time and the promise of a very good payoff.

it will be total failure. let me explain. there will be people watching, and going to the event. but 1/10 that if it is an aoe2 tournament. and MS must hope and assure that Viper get into the tournament or will be more failure.
Aoe4 only can survive if MS put money in tournaments. i think n4c had better numbers than GL.
a tournament with both games is stupid. it could be one day age4, the other age2, and so on.

The gif has AoE3 figures, not AoE4. It's the two figures either side of the central figure from the game's cover art.

No two heads are from aoe3 and tweet says "explorers" . also aoe3 players are tagged on official discord's aoe3 channel

they announced new civilization for AoE3 is in making previously on one of updates, probably information about this DLC.

I've found that recently the folks going out of their way to extoll that aoezone is such a terrible place or in absolute despondency in need of moderation to be the posts most deserving of moderation. It's basically derailment, a sprinkle of off-topic posting, with a cherry on topic of typical flame-baiting of one-off posts typically taken out of context.

In spite of what streamer x of note says, it's okay to discuss merits/demerits of tournaments, format, setting, and potential market share/capitalism. There should be no encouragement of 1984-esque thought policing, et al.

It's probably too early to speculate entirely but as mentioned previously, I'm hoping for separate tournaments rather than some amalgamation thereof. Nothing personal on my end, but watching a bunch of silo'd pro's muddle through a multi-game tourney would probably diminish the importance/training for it, etc. That's why I'm inclined to believe they'll be separate, with the Viper and possibly Hera performing in both if it's AOE4, probably all of GL sans the tournament director if 1/2/4.

Didn't he try to qualify for RBW5? I believe that was after he took that job, so I don't think that is the case.

Yeah I think I heard him saying same rule himself previous week casting with t90. But yeah, apart DM, even though he is better than 99.5% of players he is quite far from qualifying into big events, so not sure if that hurts him much.

He seemed pretty upset about it. I also wonder if it means anything for being part of GL, since it is a competitive eSports team and he can't compete in the vast majority of S-tier events

I am not a fan of watching AoE4, which of course means that I can't ''welcome'' AoE4 action between AoE2 tournament games. Likewise, I wouldn't fancy watching some nascar stuff as part of F1. So, all that matters for me as the receiving end of the spectacle is that they don't make the viewer experience messed up (in terms of scheduling etc) for someone who doesn't want to watch different empires titles. Nobody - I hope - is having problems with AoE4 being played in the Heidelberg Castle, even under the Wololo branding, we just want not caring for it to be easy on our end.
Hating is caring and I believe I stop caring for AoE4 a while ago.

This is what normal people feel about rbw. I've been put off by some of the vocal aoe2 community who do bs moves. When the news of new rbw was out, majority of reactions were
Aoe4 community: oh that is so cool. I really enjoyed rbw5 lan event.
Aoe2 community: i hope its not aoe4. Its so cringe people are apparently spamming rbw discord asking for no aoe4 content.

Surely that's gonna send great vibes about aoe community to the redbull community managers, etc.

As much as i would want this to be Aoe2 only, I guess if Microsoft is the sponsor it would make sense (from their perspective) to include Aoe4.

I would hope that both events are separate (e.g. Monday Aoe2, Tuesday Aoe4…) and that I could then just see Aoe4 days as a „days off“.

If they jump from one game to the other during the day, I will definitely not watch live, but only the VOD to be able to skip aoe4 I guess..
