AOE-II DE New redbull Wololoo coming?

I wonder if T90 will be there to cast, considering his Facebook contract seems to limit the way he is allowed to appear on other streaming plattforms

He has publicly stated multiple times that he is allowed to co cast at LANs and on other streaming platforms. He has Co-cast with Dave several times for AoE2 events and was invited to cast NC4

I'd like to see one other game from the franchise get a spot in the tournament. Maybe AOM? That could help bring the game back to people's minds and build momentum for a possible 2023 release of AOM DE(a man can dream...)

It has the best campaigns. I've played the OG campaigns of AoM probably like 10 times over the last 15 or so years lol.

Pretending like those aoe2 pros in general actually tried and put effort/training 11. Quite funny

The ones who actually put effort had good results.
- Viper and Hera won S tier tourneys.
- Kasva, Capoch and Running are in the top 16/top 20

It pretty much looks identical to where you'd expect them to be in aoe2.
Top tier aoe2 pros, became top tier aoe4 pros
The "almost there" pros, like Running, Capoch and Kasva, are about that level in aoe4 as well.

It has to be purely a balance issue.
I think the game never really took off competitively because of that, and because Microsoft wasn't much into esports at the time. The 3D graphics didn't help either, cause they were in a relative infancy stage at the time, and they were hard to get used to for many players.

Microsoft needs to hire a good company to make AOM DE. I lowkey think the game could become HUGE if its balance is polished, its graphics updated, and its QoL features improved.
The reason I think it could be huge is that it shares the most similarities to some of the other very popular RTS games outside the AOE franchise, such as SC2 and WC3, while also being built on a traditional AOE game's foundation.

Share the same hope of AoM DE, AoM is 20 years old this year so perfect time for announcing a DE.
But I don't think it makes any sense to play the current version in a Tournament.

I guess smth. like having 1 week AoE4 LAN followed up by 1 week AoE2 LAN sounds reasonable (maybe even with 2 Days AoE3 between), having both at the same time on different channels would be just cannibalizing the own viewer numbers.

The quick blurb almost seems like some sort of yawn-inducing points system across multiple games.

Not only would it be obv. boring to see f.e AoE4 Players play AoE2, mixing up Games in between Series/Streams would also be confusing and prevent ppl from watching the live-stream.
I mean most AoE2 Tournaments don't even dare to mix Gamemodes (with only Regicide Fortress being an exception).

Yeah, mythical units are simply too expensive to get into at high level.
Need "favour" which is hard to get (esp for Greeks, who need to waste villagers praying, who could otherwise be collecting resources) and in general very high resources on top of that for most of them. Plus, most of them occupy like 4-5 pop space

The main selling point of the game, the myth units, can't be produced in most of the high level games of balance!

Yeah, the issue was definitely that Microsoft was (and is) not a gaming company, they just wanted to sell the game for immediate profit, and not focus on multiplayer, esports etc
This is honestly why Starcraft is where it is and aoe2 is not. Give aoe2 similar investment and attention, and I'd argue aoe2 could've been where Starcraft was.


Just make AoM DE on say aoe2 engine, with similar unit control, pathing, formation etc. And I think it would be a great success.

I don't see AoM DE multiplayer ever rivalling Aoe2. But I think it can settle around even aoe4 levels, if Microsoft actually puts in the effort. Like you said, the game can be popular outside of aoe base, bring in people from games like WC3 who are into the fantasy units

I'd honestly like to see both AOE2 and 4 side by side. Would be fun to see how the games compare in a very similar setting, plus I think it'll net even more viewers. Love the RBW events and I'm glad to see Red Bull is responding to the love previous events got. Forza AOE

AoE4 is about half the size of AoE2
AoE3 is about half the size of AoE4
AoM is about half the size of AoE3

And AoE1 is likely larger than AoE3,4,M
So it's not really that crazy to think every single game of the franchise could be represented at some proportional level.
The only caveat is that AoE2 and AoE1 draw larger spectator numbers than other games in the franchise

Because it's an aoe2 discussion forum and potential changes to balance are probably one of the more interesting topics, especially when it moves from 800 ELO reddit suggestions to imminence. It's likely that feedback on this very forum (though unlikely to be admitted,) has influenced any number of balance changes/post-leak exclusion(s) directly/indirectly over the past couple years.

I see on reddit those questioning this idea of a shared tournament are already accused of being toxic and "making us all look bad", lol.

In all seriousness, on the one hand, another RBW in aoe2 is more than I expected to happen so that's good. On the other, it better be very separated from the aoe4 part of the show. I'd probably end up watching neither if it ends up some weird mixed event where you can't easily tune in for the one game you came there for.

I'm more than happy with aoe4 getting events when it clearly isn't at the expense of aoe2 (we're getting a LAN tourney, pretty hype) but if it's a mixed tourney I can't see it being that exciting, unless it's going to be way later in the year to give more people a chance to get up to speed on their weaker game. From just a quick look at liquipedia there seem to be maybe 12 people who could be competitive in both, which is not exactly a huge player pool.

However if it's just like two LANs which happen to be in th same/similar place at the same time that seems like quite a cool thing to happen.

If they would plan more than just one event, I think a good way would be to have 2-3 titles at each event.
So could be AoE 2, 3 and 4 for the first one, then change 3 to 1 the next one and once AoM DE is ready, switch that in.

BoA 3 will occupy the whole of June, so maybe we will have qualifiers in July, then I'd assume they will need a few weeks to prepare for Visas, flights etc...
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being at the same time as RedBull V last year!

While I agree, that I would not be excited for an event with multiple AoE games in it, 12 players doesnt seem too few. RBW5 had 14 players, and if I remember correctly they had planned on only 12, but basically had excluded one player from the invites because they incorrectly assumed he couldnt attend because of COVID, so they ended up inviting him regardless and opened the qualifiers for an additional person.
