Maybe it's just me, but I feel that having a $100k LAN event for 50% AoE 2 and 50% AoE 4 combined, assuming that's the case, is still better than allocating $100k for AoE 4 and $5k for AoE 2. It won't make sense for MS to ignore its latest game in this franchise completely when making decisions in marketing strategies.

i cant hide my excitement for another redbull event whether it s another wololo or something new.
if their idea is to challenge across multiple periods, surely aoe2 and 4 both cover the same history periods? not sure about any of the other aoe games though and where they fit in

There are massive AoE1 creators that prove otherwise.

Chim Se Di Nang has 1.3 million followers on Facebook & gets insane viewership anytime he streams it. There’s also Vietnam GameTV which is primarily AoE1 and is constantly making content. I don’t know a ton about their community but it’s primarily vietnamese and they’ve got a massive following.

As far as I know Aoe1 still is played on the original version (not even with Rise of Rome), so those numbers won't show up on Steam. The GameTV YouTube channel has 435K subs, more than any Aoe2 channel (SotL at 352K). I don't know how to get stats for Facebook, but I wouldn't be surprised if Aoe1 streaming were popular there.

Wonder what the business proposition/customer lifetime value is of the average AOE1 viewer vis AOE 2 DE based on the different consumer profiles.

I think it was installed in like every internet café as a low-performance-needed game and since they were (maybe still are? not sure) popular, that's how it spread. And that's also how they're liking the original game.

Thats actually how I got my hands on Age 2. When my dad bought a new PC, Age 2 came with it and was a brand new game then and there. I don't know whether it was some widespread thing in germany though or just a lucky offer :D
