Just praying its not Aoe4, but since RedBull are after proper marketing (and decent viewer numbers) it kind of has to be Aoe2

The great men and women at red bull know what's up they see the new dlc. AOE4 is years away from being a competitive game. I'm not saying it's bad just it's new and haven't been trialed enough for pro tournaments imo.

Red bull was completely away from esports events since last red bull, i think only one small street fighters or a yugi oh thingy after red bull 5, but i thought they were done with those events as only aoe2 got the viewers and numbers to justify the investment.

But if its in aoe4 then, we are done for the rest of the year, cause aoe2 top players will be playing aoe4, it is so sad that whenever you think that viper will go back to aoe2 and the rest of the ladder, another big aoe4 event appears after another and yet there are guys thinking that both games can co exists while in reality aoe4 events affects negatively aoe2 in general.

If red bull is advised by some streamers, they may have been presented the DWL format. Kind of a good compromise.
On the other hand, RBWs were such a big success, why change anything.

Red Bull, other than Microsoft, doesn't want to sell the game but a product not connected. So for them the viewer number (and demographic, but I guess that would be more or less the same) is the most important thing. I'm not too concerned about a new RBW being on AoE4.

b-b-but then you're missing the crucial difference in player execution in how skillfully they finesse their 6 vils to sheep

You're losing crucial time for scouting and decision making. Which is simply better for players who will play according to their 1 scenario and worse for players who want to be creative and adjust their plans. I'm all up for DWL on say Islands or TI where the game plan is quite straight forward. Can see it on Arabia and open maps. But against mixing it to maps heavily about decision making or scouting, such as Arena, MR, etc.

There are also several civilizations who benefit from their economic upgrades specifically at those time frames. (Whatever Indians are called now (herdable garrison, fish gathering,), Berbers (vil speed) Britons (shepherds), Mongols (hunt), Huns (vil idle time for pop), Aztecs and Mayans (Eco and EW scouting,) Inca's (scouting and 2pop houses,) Celts (Faster wood potentially,) Viet (knowledge of opponent location sooner.) All while favoring civs with major/significant feudal bonuses. No doubt I'm missing a few here relating to LoS etc. One must not forget the game is not balanced around dark age/feudal age aggression, but all four ages -- and there has been zero consideration of how expedited start(s) impact balance of that particular game mode. (I honestly don't know if DWL is the same, but I know that starting in Feudal age does present some good questions regarding balance when a game completely disregards one age.) In custom scenario you would tune civilizations accordingly -- but in EW it seems to have been an afterthought and a desire to rather live with the imperfection(s). Fine and all for a one-off tournament but one would've thought there would be implications when everyone was spamming eagle civs purely for the eagle warrior in a $$$,$$$.00 tourney/series.

The idea that this period of time is onerous is questionable when you have pro's who will play a non-tournament/showmatch 1v1 stalemate for 8 hours.

I do think it is a challenge for entertainers but I find that it's not asking much to be able to interact with the audience and explain how their resource-vil distribution and resource placement imparts likelihood of certain strategies. Not sure how entertaining it is when m@a archers wins a game 10 mins in.
