Why do you say that? ECL was great. Mistakes were made along the way but overall it provided us with regular high level competition in a way that nothing else has since. Do you prefer the patchwork system we have now where (except for something big like RBW) we never know what's next on the calendar?By the way, ECL was probably the most underwhelming aoe event ever. Don’t need another
I think there were many problems with ECL, but none of them were related to the quality of the games themselves, but the whole format and premise of the event. Here's some examples of what I'm talking about:Why do you say that? ECL was great. I think there were many problems with ECL, but none of them were related to the quality of the games themselves, but the whole format and premise of the event. Here's some examples of what I'm talking about:
- Telling only some well known people in the community about this upcoming major TG tournament well in advance, while everyone else finds out with 2 weeks left until qualifiers, so there was a built in advantage for better established teams.
- This 2 round, short notice qualifier would determine which ~40 players will be allowed to participate in the only TG tournaments for the next year.
- Halfway into this way too long event it became obvious that some of the teams that were doing poorly hardly even cared or practiced any longer
- The host of the tournament secured a sponsorship for one, and only one, of the teams near the beginning of the event, super balanced and fair tournament if i do say so myself.
Basically the only good thing about ECL from an organizational perspective was that all the dates after the qualification were defined well in advance
classic IYIyTh posting speculative things without any sources to back it up.

+1 to that. It was first professional big production that paved the way for others. The final LAN was Great. Before that, meh
Tf you are talking? IYIyTh had not post anything that told robo was chosen which is normal to do when something is announced. I went on to confirm this information from Discord as you known well so " but then a post from MS discord arrived, boom friendly fire." part makes 0 sense as I confirmed it before he did that hence it cannot backfire in first place. Whenever or not IYIyTh later gives more information that was not public when he made post or adds information that was already available doesn't change anything other than confirms originally provided information is right (although I already had provided that info but same applies if I hadn't). I can ask for actual news/source when it is not clear if this is really new information or something especially when user posting is IYIyTh who I don't associate as trustworthy but more as troll, spammer or whatever based on previous AoEZone history. Clearly, I wasn't only person thinking so. You cannot be offended from others questioning news/you when it's your own fault you gave no information/source you had about topic. My take from this thread, Tempires thought he found an opening to attack IYIyTh but then a post from MS discord arrived, boom friendly fire.
All the months, all the work he did to defend every controversial MS decision... Feels sad.
I don't have an NDA (at least, nothing related to AOE2.), know (or care,) what server it came from.
Strict don't ask don't tell policy.
Perhaps when they renew my Yankee White aoe2 clearance I'll get flagged for the most dramatic of aoe2leaks.
Ladies, gentlemen, your confirmation.
You'd be surprised the extent certain people on this board will go to not believe what is right in front of them.
Knowing more and employing that knowledge of aoe2 happenings and past events =/= making things up
News is news. Too much information is kept close-chested in this community by a subset of individuals to be part of the "in," crowd. It's hard enough to keep up with a game and its community enough without all of the artificial gates. It's unfortunate what streamers have to go through just to get a piece of the action, or how much effort one streamer might have to go through to obtain funding vis another just to get a look.
Frankly, I wish there was more public discussion on how events are funded and decisions are made -- at present, tournament sponsorships operate much too like an oligarchy/nepotistic organization. Perhaps the new tournament coordinator will change course. I have my doubts, but I am at times happily surprised by what enough public attention can do on an issue.
I will be watching, and I will be writing.
I encourage individuals (who, after all, are the product whose captive viewership is being sold for these tournaments) to voice their opinion(s) on the matter.
There is far more that gets done behind the scenes that most aren't privy too, most are open secrets.
As has been alluded to by streamers and pro's who have had access to such sub-channels and information -- you don't really need to think that hard about what is happening -- the answers are usually the simple/boring ones.
I don't break news/stories/issues for folks who are going to deny it or mud sling, so I do regret if you are not my target audience. After all, it's impossible to appease everyone.
Now the world has gone to bed,
Darkness won't engulf my head,
I can see by infra-red,
How I hate the night,
Now I lay me down to sleep,
Try to count electric sheep,
Sweet dream wishes you can keep,
How I hate the night.
