You can't be sure that AoE 2 DE will be published in November. AoE 1 DE's publishing was postponed months. Better for tournament have all the best players in with voobly than have just some the best players in DE, which could be out late. In the long run tournaments should be in DE, but now there is too much uncertainty.

The question is: do we need to care that much about the sickest viewercount? This is as planned an open up to 128 teams tournament. Its sth for the whole community to enjoy from best to worst. Thats why people want this. Its not a 16 top player event that only gets measured by viewercount.

I would simply like to make a big community event happen that lots of people can enjoy.

The prizepool itself doesn't matter a huge deal to me anyway. The event wI'll still happen if there is only $4k raised, the prize distribution would simply be adjusted to compensate.

Not sure how to feel about the word going around that Germany A may essentially be Team Secret (more regarding rumors for DauT, not TheViper). Feels somehow counter to the spirit of a nations-based tournament, though I understand the rationale to an extent. I guess I’d thought that for “stranded” players, they’d band together, form regional teams, or join less populated national teams. I can’t imagine Germany would have issues finding at least five players...

Will similar situations apply to multiple teams? Curious how the cutoffs on work (on countries having too few [good?] players, which countries can combine, etc).

Regardless, looking forward to a great event!

Well the problem is not Viper moving to Germany now, but some other players (which i really respect because they are great persons, not their fault) switching their countries in previous Nation Cups and with that destroying the borders of just "one nationality".

This makes it more difficult now to set players to just a single nationality and opens many posibilliies to "switch nations" for this Nations Cup.

In my opinion sling is nerfed pretty much in the last time. Why always admins try to nerf sling as much as possible. Sling is part of the game and i think 100% tax is too much already, wont talking about a idea of 200%.

No its good like this, because ppl dont want that a 3v3 game just becomes a 2v2 or even 1v1 game with some extra resources. That was the biggest problem in the latest TG tournaments, probly you missed that. 100% sling tax is just perfect.

This is commendable but I'd still try to get streamers involved from early stages (instead of just streaming) for these reasons:
1) they help give more visibility to the tournament
2) helps to generate hype
3) helps with donations
4) may help with administrative work
5) Finally, I have seen how passionately each of the big streamers promote their own tourneys, if they feel some sense of ownership with the tournament, i'm sure they will work very passionately for the success of this as well.

In real sport you atleast have to have citizenship to the country you want to represent. In many sports you also can't change the country once you have represented them in adult level (e.g. football). Sure age is "just" a video game but if we are taking our game atleast somewhat seriously we should follow atleast some reasonableness in who can represent what Nation. Otherwise the point of _Nations_ Cup kinda diminishes.

Already compiling some speculative lists of teams per countries.

Some showmatches would be good to raise money I guess. I'd argue Finland is currently the best national team in the world but SY is really not far behind.

It will be an interesting dynamic to see which "new" countries do well and which countries that have done well before fall back. I feel like Argentina, Canada, for instance, have lost most of their active players. Brazil split in two during ECL and they never really did well since their victory in 2017 so it would be interesting to see.

I think the competition should be played on DE provided the multiplayer infrastructures (i.e. the networking and the spectating possibilities) are at least on par with Voobly + Userpatch capabilities. It would just make so much more sense and I don't buy the arguments of the type "X% of the player base won't be able to switch". Pros will be able to switch and, sorry, they are the only ones who matter.

N.B. It makes no sense for Viper to play for Germany.
This is Nations Cup, not "country where you currently live in" Cup.

I think leaving room for Balt or ex Yugoslavia countries to play together would be acceptable.

And regarding the WK vs DE thing : last NC missed the boat by sticking with AoC for the whole tourney while WK had just been released a month prior. It was a significant let down for me to see every tourney and most pro games being on WK and having to come back to AoC every time throughout the summer for NC.

I don't want this to happen again, so my advice is that it's best to wait and see. See how well DE performs. I don't want DE to be great and yet have to spectate NC on WK just because that's what had been planned previously.

And that's coming from one of the makers of WK.

Second-tier players are buddy (2k), Gluttony (1k9) for Norway, and many nC zone guys at 2k for Germany (I don't count Stefan as he doesn't play with them regularly).

I say just let everyone represent whatever country they feel the most proud to represent. No need for walls, border guards and passport checks in a damn video game. Most people will want to represent their own country anyway - whatever they feel is their own country.

At least if you want to allow these "former yugoslavia" and "former soviet union" type nations, I dont see any reason why Viper shouldnt be allowed to play for Germany as well. Granting exceptions based on historical, geographical or racial reasons, or just to allow DauT to play, turns so easily into a political minefield that it's best to just be either super relaxed or super strict about the whole thing. Super relaxed might hurt someones feelings of nationalism, but on the other hand it probably provides better games and more intense drama.

One of the main appeals of a Nations cup is precisely that TheViper, Tatoh, Daut etc can't just team up in team Europe and win again... I would never care for a NC where all the top players switch their nationality just to make a better team and win prize money or personal glory.

Viper can play for Germany only because he live here for couple of months (or some friends from here or what)? Isn't he played already for Norwey in NC 2015? Then what the reason for NC? Just go and play clanwars or some ECL games...

We need rules about for what country you can play. If you already played in NC for other country - you just can't play for other countries ever. You must decide like in professional football. Is like issue with Brothers.

But keep in mind that AoE2 isn't huge game. So some small countries can't participate even with 3v3 format. Let some small countries play together for regional teams like "Baltic team". Better have these teams than nothing.

I don't really get your argument why rules need to be one of the extremes neither I think "It's just a videogame" is a solid argument.

We can have solid compromise which doesn't go into absurdities like asking for passports to verify citizenship status and doesn't allow mixed teams without any reasonable connections.

I disagree, the NC is precisely the one tournament where it's not all about the top players. You're not supposed to care much if SY or Finland wins, you're supposed to only care about how far France goes, how well they play and how many (and which) countries they beat.

Also please somebody write a cool speculation thread with flags and names and ratings and all the nice stuff where we can fantasize about the teams!
