It's not about what Nili can or can't do.

It's about having basic human decency and caring about well-being of people who visit you. It's very possible nothing will come out of it and i pray that will be the case. However there is also a real risk Yo's career, financial stability, ability to visit future LANs could be jeopardized by this incident.

Wait, you're blaming me for not watching an hour long video of a big influenzer banned in China while you completely ignore my arguments that saying the word Taiwan is not claiming Taiwan is a free state, that's what China is all about. Taiwan is not a forbidden word. For a Chinese, Tawian is just an island with that name. Yo cut the subject so he behaved exactly as a Chinese should.

It's not the same case - Big influancer, popular in China claims the Taiwan is a free state and player from small game who cuts the Taiwan subject, when asked. Apples and oranges, you know. Similiar but not same fruit.
You just take a high-profile tabloid case and compare it to any case involving China.

Also, you know - China is still not North Korea. People from China are traveling all around the word if they have money. I met a few in college, very nice, loud people :D. Even people from Taiwan wrote there that is common for Chinese to study in Taiwan. You really think, their goverment thinks they are not asked about Taiwan? Of course they know. What is more likely? being indoctrinated by the Taiwanese through exchange students or going to Germany from time to time to meet and play games?

You guys focus too much on if there can be any concequences for Yo. For me is just Nili being silly and worst part is he didn't learn lesson from previous tournament. It's live, you can tell some dumb stuff, happens to everyone, but I just don't get why he always wants to put some political issues into aoe2 stream. At least this time it's his own event, but it's still very bad manners to put other person into such akward spot. And it's not about free speech or which side you are on. For example imagine now Nili says(maybe he did, i barely watched main stream) that we have to support UA and how bad ru are etc and 3 meters away Vinch is standing. Even if Vinch supports it(I have no clue) it's still akward situation and if you invite players why would you want them to put into akward situations. It's just not professional and the more often he does it the more unprofessional he looks like.

I don't think it is psychotic. Repeated offenses causes more punishment, I guess entire law system is psychotic in this case. This is not Nili's first case of stupid jokes, not second also..

It's great. I think there's a reason professional commentators do this in football games etc, it seems to increase immersion for the viewer, by stimulating both the visual and auditory senses simultaneously.

He's doing a good job. He and Dave are the best team so far. I hope they get to cast the finals together.

That's just what play-by-play is...
I guess we're just not used to it in the community.
Since most of our casters are used to casting alone on their channels, they sort of develop this hybrid style of calling matches where they combine both pbp and color.

I personally love it, especially when it's so fluid and well-paced as Dash's!
Obviously he *must* be paired with someone extremely knowledgeable to make it work, which is why I absolutely loved the Dash and Hera duo!

I’d have to watch more casting involving Dash to say much about his qualities as a play by-play announcer in particular.

However, I’m not all that convinced that AoE2 casting needs traditional play-by-play announcing. That role, as far as I know, grew out of radio announcing, where it is essential. That continued in television broadcasts of sporting events, where the action can also often be unclear and the cadence often lends itself to a division of roles.

I’m not sure that a video game broadcast in high resolution to personal devices with tools like Capture Age has the same limitations or structures that really lead to the need for a pure play-by-play announcer. If you know what’s going on, it’s more engaging and fun (at least it is to me) to have a dynamic conversation between the casters or a caster who can generate excitement and interest complemented by an expert.

In fact, that’s even true in broadcasts of professional sports with alternative broadcasts like the Manning cast on Monday Night Football.

That particular example, from how you've written it, sounds somewhat bad, but I like the idea overall. When I listened to dash, one of the good things about his casting WAS that I could sort of turn off and listen with half an ear and still stay in touch with what's happening in the game, even if I'm not watching it closely. Like others here are mentioning, it's something valuable that I liked from sc2, for example. The alternative is just to react or analyze and allow your audience to use their brains...but that means the audience is forced to pay close attention to enjoy the cast, which is not ideal most of the time as a "viewer".

Since you bring up dash I'd like to say that his enthusiasm is great but he definitely COULD step back a bit and allow his co casters to carry a bit more, especially if dash is thinking of injecting some of his analysis. Most of the other casters are much more knowledgeable and better suited for the hard core analysis than Dash is.

If you are "watching" it from a smaller device, be that not-fullscreen laptop or some tablet/smartphone, describing what is happening in more details can be helpful, or like Bloodless said, if you are doing something else and half-watching the game. How much to describe and how, for aoe2, I don't know, but I feel there is some place for it.

It would be ideal to have multiple streams for every event, where you can select your own preferred style of commentating, and luckily we usually have that in aoe2 (I did sometimes switched to another language TV channel for big sports event when our local commentator was unbearable, and that's way harder to do compared to twitch with free streams).

Dash has been amazing. I love his pbp style. It allows me to do sometimes something else like read news, check emails, pay bills etc, while I listen the game on the back ground. I don't have to pay that close attention to it all the time and only tune back, when something interesting is going on. These days have been very long. I couldn't follow all the games that closely. Dash-Hera from the first day was probably the best AOE2 casting I've ever heard.

Other thing that doesn't get mentioned is the interviews. Dash really shows his professionalism there. Amazing interviewer.

This can be said about every caster though. Like Nili overusing words like "relatively" and "reasonable", he even said "relatively reasonable mangonel shot". I think everyone has downsides, better not to focus on them.

I think the mentioning of professionalism is a good point. Dash is indeed very professional, his tone, his pacing, his vocabulary, it is all very professional, totally agree about that. What I wonder is, is that what we want? The most popular casting duo, Dave/T90, is certainly not the most professional, and that's why I love listening to them. They make it fun to listen to a match, and I don't think it's a coincidence that people like that. Moreover, even if there is a place for the purely professional cast, is it NAC? NAC is built on a premise of a much more relaxed setting, a bunch of friends hanging out and playing some aoe together.

I don't know, but seems to me straight professionalism is a little out of place with four guys in sweatpants crammed on a couch together, and that's totally fine in my opinion.

I think that applied to the first NAC, maybe the second, but not anymore. The problem with aoe2 is tournaments that should be big money are small money (TTL) and tournaments that should be small money are big money (NAC, HC). I'm guessing that NAC was at least partially based off of SC's Homestory Cup (I could be wrong) where the prize money is 1/10th or less of the biggest tournaments and the result is a tournament mostly just for fun. In NAC's case, that number is more like 50% which means it can't be treated as such, so making it as professional as possible makes sense.

The interview was perfectly in line with previous interviews of the tournament. Maybe the technical/analytical style is just what they're going for.

Chill bro, it is normal - did you see how they were when Tatoh lost and Viper won and you see the difference. For what I see is a tourney sponsored by GL taking place in GL HQs, they are friends and probably is good for audience numbers so all and all it is normal.

Agree. I understand they want 7 games and The Viper to go through but the commentary on that set was difficult to listen to at times. Everything from Viper's pov. Felt for Villese. He's come a long way though and even managed to congratulate his opponent unawkwardly so there's progress there too.

Will be surprised to see anything other than Hera and Liereyy dominations today. 5-1/2's I reckon.
