I have seen a few people criticise this patch because we are imposing many changes that are not recommended by experts. That is true. I will clearly explain why:
There was a huge discussion and an attempt long ago about a new balance patch/expansion inorder to make aoc as good as possible. The end result was an expansion (AoFE). There most changes were recommended by a team of experts. And surely it was better than AoC (Clearly better in many aspects/some of the imbalances remained).
What were some of its main drawbacks?
1. Mayans remain too powerful (they had been one of the most overpowered civs on arabia and possibly many other maps). Heavy Eagle upgrade makes them very powerful mid castle age and small nerfs to plum cost was just not enough.
2. AoFE did very little to nerf drush + wall + xbows which is the most overpowered strategy in aoc. All that they did was give palisade walls +1 seconds to build... which is very insignificant.
3. Koreans and Turks which are two of the weakest (amongst) civs on aoc arabia. AoFE gave them nothing significant. Even Sara got only the 100 wood market which isnt enough to boost them to a competitive level.
4. AoFE did nothing to improve m@a which is one of the most underpowered unit in aoc after early feudal, and even then it was only viable to go m@a after a drush.
We have the right to design a game that is more balanced (as in bringing more civ competition and make more strategies viable). So there we are... We went ahead and did our best to make this possible.
