Somehow he doesn't understand that the vast majority of tournaments in aoe2 history have been "long and drawn out" and that the weekend jampacked tournaments are very recent deviation from the norm.
Oh i know that it was the case, personally i didnt mind it too much and on average the viewer numbers where a lot lower and the effort needed to make them happen is bigger. Just because it was done a lot in the past doesnt mean it was better or worse in any way.I swear tournaments used to spread out much more and it was no issue.
The "issue" is not drawn out events not being possible, its just that the weekend events get more viewers for less work. The people currently making big events happen have interest in viewer numbers per investment/effort. Recent "jam packed" tournaments are holding all the records etc, especially when looking at averages for invested money/time per viewership. (And the numbers for those are even outperforming the overall game and streaming growth.)
People didnt switch to that type of event without reasons. Nothing is stopping people from doing long events. As u can see with kotd3, they can happen. But it requirs someone like prinztec to finance it. If u find sponsors willing to put in the money, than go for it. If you want more scheduling based tournaments: watch some of the mass amounts of small tournaments being streamed on a pretty much daily basis on twitch. Small prizepool community events for amateurs still often use this format for leagues etc. (Small often meaning a few hundred dollars, so quite comparable to most events from 5+ years ago.)
Obviously there will never be a structure that is perfect for everyone, but i am fairly confident that you are in a minority with your disliking of condensed events when the full player and viewerbase is considered.
