Rec is DE patch 50292 (July 2021 Patch).
With a 20pop up, Mayans get a nice 19pop uptime of other civs.
They are capable of similar timings for 2range archers, with a fast fletching (<~13min), as other civs can for 1range due the cheap archer and food gathering bonus (from hunt/boars). This can be done with one or two lumber camps, in the rec I did with 2 LCs. If the opponent is open, the sheer mass of archers can be hard to deal with early.
Can get some nice initiative in TG, or on close distance 1v1 maps.
For 1v1 consideration, it is very useful for forcing skirmisher response from the opponent, which can just be countered by adding some EWs, for which there is already gold economy if ranges are idled. Alternatively one could simply add new villagers to gold instead of more farms to facilitate the added gold costs.
