What about Nili and Jordan (who weren't born in the same country), then?

I think if we look less at their geographic proxmity, and more the fact that both DauT and Modri were born in the same nation, which just happens to no longer exist, it allows us to see how special of a circumstance this is.I do feel bad for players like Modri who are upset at the prospect of getting m left out of a tournament like this.
I am also concerned by potential unintended consequences. Assuming LB10 is not top 300 at time of seeding, this would allow, for example, Liereyy and Jordan. They could conceivably win the thing. And I’m not convinced having a joint Austria/ Germany team win a national teams event is a great look for AOE as an esport.
And whilst teams like Benelux/ Yugoslavia/ PeruBrazil are cool in a way they do stop it from feeling like a nations tournament.
Also, how do you define neighbouring country? Slovenia doesn’t border Serbia - I know they both used to be Yugoslavia but this just highlights the mess defining which countries apply for the purposes of the proposed rule - would Poland and Latvia count? Thailand and Vietnam?
So whilst I would love to find a way for all players who are good enough to be involved, my view is regrettably that it sucks for some people but this is one where life is a little unfair.
Though I have decided I now want a big TG tournament where players sign up as individuals and are randomly allocated teams by the organisers!
Different Country same nationality You know both inhabitants were called Germans and for West Germany the East Germans were treated as being born in West Germany when for instance they moved (until the country of departure didnt like that). They had a united german olympic team in three olympic games. What about Nili and Jordan (who weren't born in the same country), then?

Yeah sure, take cutoff top 500 and when you dont have a player in that ball park you can get the worst player within top 500 of connected but different country that wants to play. The last point of Modri's post is an interesting suggestion.
I also think you can have a cutoff line for more competition and choice. This cutoff can be in terms of population of the country (so that it's fair for smaller countries) and the rating of the players.
For instance, teams should have players from the same country if the country is large (US, Germany). Below a certain threshold of population AND if there is nobody else in top xxx of rankings, players may be allowed to team with others in a similar geography (For example: Balkan region).
Jordan + Liereyy? Do you realize that this is 2 different case?I also would say let them play.
A nice side effect though, this would also allow Joardn/Liereyy.
Jordan + Liereyy? Do you realize that this is 2 different cases?
i'm pretty sure Liereyy & LB would demolish DauT and Modri on any open map for instance.
It is just a 30k team game tournament. We have these every week. No worries if they cant compete... Just try next timePeople talking like it's the only tournament ever and if daut can't play in this one it's like he can never play and compete ever
It's just one tournament with that format the only of its kind and it happened only 2 years ago the last time. If you absolutely want to see the best teams to compete with the best players you can watch reruns of boa2 or ewd in waiting for the next tg tournament which will very probably not be nationality based. The world cup is not about having the best players and the best teams, it's a core feature of it
The thing is the #2 in Peru is top 300 with a 1900 rating. The #2 in Serbia (and probably Slovenia as well) is 1300 so that's what... Top 6000 in the world? Maybe for Reddit a 1300 player is above average but the truth is that it's nowhere comparable. A 1900 could easily 1v2 13xx players. The way Modri set out the rule (Heartt could team with a Brazilian), Liereyy could then team with Jordan even though there are plenty of good German players.
Well, the football World Cup already sets precedents for us.
teams like Scotland, Gibraltar, Faroe Islands, South Sudan, Kosovo, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei can play
teams like Catalonia, Basque Country, Crimea, Monaco, Sapmi, Greenland and Northern Cyprus cannot, also no Czecheslovakia, Benelux, ASEAN, Balkans, United Korea or EU.
