Is it always spring for you?
Spring is definitely my favorite month but actually my name means a spring of water. I was named after the Jordan river and my last name means dark water/river, so I've always been into tho whole "flow like water" mentality which is kinda funny since I can get so stubborn in my play :P
What's your favorite red wine?
I like Cabernet because it's very bitter. I also love dark espresso coffee and hoppy beer like Sierra Nevada for the same reason. Barefoot/Yellowtail because I'm poor, haha.
How did you get into AoE2?
I actually started AoE2 during Age of Kings at age 11 when my uncle was given an old PC from work. We lived out in the sticks with no TV ect. so it was quite the treat to have a computer and 56k dial up internet. The internet was bad so my uncle would let me and my friends LAN party at the school after hours (he was and is still a college professor). One time we got kicked out by a security guard wondering why this teacher had four 12-13 year olds in his office at 2am, lol! I don't know if you could get away with that nowadays but we loved it!
In LotH1, Hera defeated you with a 3-0 win in the Quarterfinals. What lessons did you take from there?
LotH1, I was still refusing to make any walls... sadly I've strayed from the golden path but I expect better results now, haha!
Your next opponent is chart—how do you feel about that?
It's interesting playing chart again and really nice to see him reaching such a good level. We actually played in an HD tournament years ago where he was barely 1900 so I wasn't taking it seriously. He ended up punishing me hard for that and taking first along with a larger chunk of prize pool so I'm definitely motivated to win this meeting.
If you win, you face TheViper in Ro16. Will you tame the snake or enjoy some strangling?
Viper is the kind of player that is so good that you can't even play normal meta vs him and expect to win. You literally have to invent some new crazy tactic or go MBLtower bot. Its not out of the question as we've seen metas get shattered before so maybe someone will come up with a cool new way to play huns.
Ara Hunswar AoC vs WK. Which is better?
Wolo team actually did a great job balancing huns. In AoC huns would generally turn into a CA war at some point, there was almost no avoiding it even to the point where doing any else almost seemed like trolling since you would have to be far ahead to pull it off. AoC = CA op, becoming one-dimensional. WK = skirmishers (cheaper upgrade), knights (cheaper husbandry), tarkan (more armor, produced in stables), CA nerfed. Huns already were one of the most versatile civs but now they are properly balanced for a mirror matchup.
What is in your opinion missing the most in the AoE2 competitive scene?
It desperately needs automatic match finder and a balance change. I do like manually making games, talking to opponents, specs ect., but sometimes you don't want to wait 2 hours to find a 2k+ game. If we had auto-match I think it would get people off the bench a bit more. The balance also really needs work. We are in a stage of the game where static defense is both the best way to attack and defend. Coming from a huns background I always found the funnest part of the game was to make huge armies, raid multiple points and micro while trying to macro your economy. The balance right now favors players who make walls, towers, camp hills. I think some interesting balances would be: reduced hill effect - makes camping less effective and more opportunity for action, weaker walls/house while being built - helps players who have army in the correct place deal damage, move stonewalls to castle, nerf towers more, and a slightly higher gather rate for vills.
