I don't think T90 should really be considered a player for the purposes of this list. Nili you would also say owes his "fame" more to casting and promoting the competitive scene than to participating in it but he still makes an active effort to qualify for RM events and is still a top DM player.

Does T90 play AoE II? If yes (and it is yes), he is a player.

No, he meant it as all of us won important tournament. Darknoob won CL League, D3rp won Wonder Cup, Terror won that one tournament where he got AW in every match. Bloodless and Rmcoo still need to prove themselves with a major tournament win to get a liqupedia page.

Not really up to me. The LP contributor team uses a notability checker that looks at all their known tournament results to determine how many points they have. If they pass a threshold, they are either open for discussion or just straight up notable.

Interestingly enough, T90 can't be looked up and that might be down to his page being a bit more hardcoded from the early days of the wiki. But you can look up nearly any person/page and if they have tournaments results it will output their points towards notability.

"Absolute nobodies" is a pretty relative term. There are plenty of players grinding tournaments, and just because they get KOd in ro32 or ro64 does not mean they are not putting in the time to show up.

Having an LP page is more about being someone who is playing regularly than being a good player. Being good makes it an easy discussion, being consistent makes it inevitable. It makes our work as contributors easier too since we can call player info from their page instead of inputting it again every time they play a tournament.

I'm not talking about players who play in A tier and S tier tournaments and get to the round of 32/64, I'm talking about players with <5 tournament appearances on liquipedia or others with only C-tier tournament appearances (C-tier being a generous designation)

If by any chance you are looking at some AoE4 player pages, then that might be down to them being notable in other Liquipedia wikis (starcraft, Warcraft, etc)

If that is for AoE1/2/3/M players, then it's probably from the previous notability we used, which only required a 1st place finish in a C-tier event to be deemed notable. We moved to a point system to be able to better gauge players who played consistently and to avoid those 1 tournament champ situations.

The player base of the franchise is so tiny compared to other games in the wiki that I even love to read something about the tournament champ that once won the C-Tier tourney in 2003 to be honest. :D

Well I'm glad I managed to spark a nice discussion. I agree that T90 is technically an AoE player but to me a list from Liquipedia titled that implies people who are actively trying to "make it" participating in organized competitions rather than everyone who plays the game in any capacity. You generally use the term "basketball player" only when you are referring to people for whom playing that game is their primary identity/occupation. If you take someone in the media like Charles Barkley who no longer plays you could still consider them a "basketball player" but this is because they made their name during the days where they were involved in competition. T90 obviously owes a lot of his success to being high level in AoE2 but he has always been a streamer known more for covering the games of others than for playing it himself.

I think that isn't even up for discussion. Tournament hosts and casters have their own notability criteria where he would have (some of) the highest scores, it is more about the top 20 list in the starting post.

No list for tournaments so far, but for an article I did for team liquid, Liquipedia shared some info:

I know there is no hard numbers (LP never shares those), so these are all relative to the starting traffic of the wiki and it only goes to August. But it should give some more info on it.

i'll see if there is something up to Dec 2021.

List will come out around next week, among other "smaller" wikis - I saw the list for Dota 2 for example.

Yeah he has definitely earned a page in Liquipedia. He just shouldn't be counted among people who have earned their notoriety primarily from playing AoE competitively.

It is true that quite a few players who have a high enough notability score don't have a page, which mainly are players who have their score from events several years ago, but were not top 64 in any S tier tournament recently. So nobody was checking their scores or interested in creating their pages. If Influenza or his team reach a good placement in any upcoming A or S tier tournament, probably someone would create his page.

Hoang also deserves a page because of his good viewer numbers, I believe.
There are not many people with pages who are not notable in any category.
