Price range would be interesting. Guess for age the resolution would be crucial.

I use a Lenovo Y510P for both school work and playing AOC. It's a pretty powerful laptop that comes in various configurations. The one I have is with dual video cards. I do a lot of programming, hence I need a laptop with good performance. The never version of this laptop is the Y50 (Y510P was the previous generation). I think this is the best gaming laptop that will give you bang for the buck.
I normally do all my work on Ubuntu, so I have it in dual boot mode, and use windows just for AOC. Hope this helps.
I *DO NOT* recommend a Sony VAIO. I use one for AOC, and it's got this weird thing where it's a pain to shut off the touch pad. You can't do it from the control panel. You have to go in this special VAIO software. Even after you shut off the touch pad, once in a while it turns itself back on, then when I'm playing if my palm touches the touch pad while hotkeying, it totally messes up my mouse. It also has an inordinate amount of blue screen crashes.
Don't invest too much many in your laptop if you want it mainly for AoC (assuming that u only need word/excel/internet for university). Invest the money u saved by buying a cheap laptop in a new flatscreen tv with high reso (1900x1080) so u can hook it to your laptop as a second screen. This way u can do your schoolstuff just fine, play aoc on a big *** reso and have a free television. This is what I did
