Viper lost to Mbl during NAC1, NAC2 and also Legacy of the Huns 2.

NAC1 was a group stage 4:3 win, Viper won the tournament.
NAC2 was a group stage 3:1 win, Viper won the tournament.
LotH2 was B-Tier semifinal, after which Viper also lost to vivi in the 3rd Place match.

Just to put it into context. I still loved MbL for these performances, since we seldomly saw TheViper lose in tournament matches these days. It was like breathing fresh air. And I'm rooting for Mb today <3

Even though Viper-Hera is a huge matchup and there have been some really fascinating sets between them over the years, I never found their Arabia games to be the most entertaining. Stylistically they both like to play a bit more defensive and it drags the game out sometimes whereas when you get Lierey/Yo. vs Hera or Viper it's more of a clash of styles.

That said I'm still excited for today because it'll be interesting to see if Hera can really start to create some separation between himself and the "top 4" and become the undisputed #1 player right now.

Yeah, I think Hera is the favourite going into this set. He has been on form lately.

I predict a 5-4 or 5-3 in Hera's favour.

Viper himself has not been considered undisputed #1 for a long time and during his "worst" year where he still won more than anybody else it was also still Hera who was mostly hyped up. Nah man, I'm rooting for Viper. Not a Hera fanboy.

But you get the feel from seeing how he played in the last few tournaments. Dude is very consistently solid. The top 4 are still close, but Hera looks like he's slightly better than the rest.

Yeah that's what i expected and was afraid of. Hera dominates hard.

Out of a potential 56 games from quarter finals onwards (including 3rd place) we got 37 games. Quite a few stomps there. It was apparent that Hera would likely win but I didn't expect absolute domination. How many villies did he lose over the whole five games?

Hera played amazingly well. What I noticed is how focused he remained even when up 4-0. You'd think he would pick a lower tier civ, nope he brings out the best civ in the game and is ready to stomp.

That's the killer instinct you need at this level. No mind games, no cute tricks, just stomp.

Just caught up with games, once again people put MBL out of top10 before tournament, and once again he went for top spots.

This is a routine now, and feeling a bit sorry for him. When other players have a bad stint, or stayed away game for a while they never have such sharp decline when so-called experts rate them.

He is sitting at 8th place of all-time prize win among active players, well above the 9th ACCM, deserves some respect.

I'm not a Hera fan by any means, just giving an honest assessment of what I see. As I've stated many times my favorite player is Lierey and I still think he can do things in this game that no one else can - even Hera - but the results are what they are at this point. Hera has earned the right to be thought of as the clear #1.

Haven’t kept up with most tourneys past few years, but seems ara games haven’t changed a whole lot. Think I see what Belgium means too, sure glad I don’t play ara anymore.

I disagree, i think arabia is MB´s favourite map and the only map where he can play top 4-6 lvl, in other tournaments he is more in the top 6-12 area

Yeah, the finals was a massive bummer. Watching a 5-0 in a finals is never a good experience no matter who you cheer for lol.

Any idea about overall live viewership? I see that twitch for aoe2 peaked at around 26K for finals

39k peak for the final.
Similar to both NAC4 (43k) and KotD 4 (41k).

The disadvantage of having a `one map tournament` is that when you don`t like the map you just don`t watch any stream at all i noticed. During the whole of May i barely watched any AOE because i dislike the Arabia map. Now excited about MoA7 but that has the same effect on some other viewers.
A more diverse mappool keeps it interesting for a wider audience to watch ...

that might be true, but not for all watchers.
My statement was that a one map tournament for a whole month is boring for a lot of people who watch, i did say a lot, not all. Even if it is on Arena which is by far the most exciting map in the mappool.

I’d rather watch a year straight of Arabia matches than a tournament that is overloaded with gimmick maps (e.g. Golden Swamp) which provide at best superficial diversity in strategy. Drafting for mixed maps tournaments has also become extremely stale: do we really need to see more Japanese on Four Lakes/Cross?
