Great tournament. Vinch would have had a chance if he hadn't completely blown Incas - Lith game. He was in a winning position, but tried to do too much, and couldn't keep up with Viper. Lost his monks, lost the game. Didn't have the skirms ready fast enough, think he thought the game was over. That's what ended the series

True. Seems like viper experience won that game. He had more vills in early imp. If vinchester could win treb war... redemption wasnt a best idea, he should get mass eagles and use that to kill trebs and bbc then raid viper eco then viper gg. Vinchester didnt use his best civ aztecs dont know why. Maybe he wanted to let viper win...

Congrats to Vinchester on an amazing tournament! Beating Hera and slaughtering Yo and Lierrey like that is an amazing performance!

Congrats to Viper for taking it home, he has been winning the bigger tournaments again as of late. Did the competition let up or did Viper just had a temporary dip in form?

Yeah, he definitely turned in a respectable performance here. I wouldn't overgeneralize from one tournament, but if he keeps up that level of quality he's definitely going to join the top 5 conversation, especially with Hera losing interest in this game.

As usual I watched VODs so missed live event, how was it in general, did Memb reach good amount of viewers after Viper vs. Liereyy hype is gone, I hope Russians are turned up?

I really hope that he is pleased with result, because it looks like Memb is the only guy who can provide another one or two S-Tier AOE2 tournaments for us...

Both.

Despite the 5-2, Vinch definitely put up a good fight and he's young and disciplined so I expect him to keep improving. Really glad we finally have a new guy to be in contention for a championship. Remember it was this same year when he went for terrible strats vs Mr Yo in HC4, this time his preparation really showed.

The semifinals and the final were a letdown but we’ve been spoiled with great KOTD finals in the past so can’t really be too upset about it. Congrats to Viper, seems like forever ago we were talking about how he hadn’t won an S tier tournament for so long and now he’s won the last two in a row.

Yo and Lierey were major disappointments. Hera too, obviously. Ideally you’d like to have seen Viper have to go through one of them to win the tournament but Vinch was on fire so fair play to him for a great performance.

Thanks to Memb as always. Kotd will always be the Aoe tournament for me. Hope it goes on for many years to come.

Why were they "disappointments", because they lost and you didn't expect that? What is the logics behind that (only if there is any, of course)?

If there was any disappointment, it was some players performing exceptionally in the early stages of the tournament (Yo, Jordan), then not doing so well in the playoffs (Yo losing to Vinchester, Jordan losing to Viper and getting swept by Liereyy), which made for some slightly imbalanced matchups, like Viper having a somewhat easy route to the finals. That said, I think Jordan is super talented, but Viper knows how to expose his weaknesses super well. I don't think Liereyy was a disappointment. The finals were still good, and as others have pointed out, game 4 is a prime example of some overextending and mismicro at the wrong times.

I think the finals were pretty entertaining, MBL vs Liereyy last time was 6-3 and I don't remember the games being exciting. In semis, Liereyy vs Vinch was nice to watch.

Yo and Liereyy both lost 4-1 and as good as Vinch played you really expect more of them. Do you think they played at their highest level in this tournament? I don't see anything mysterious in Andrew's statement.

Tournament was great but imo too long, 2 weeks would have been enough, several matches could have been better bo3 instead of bo5.

I hope for next tournament, they reconsider better the usage of draftings, lots of matches were civ win, we see more civs being played but we don't always see the best performance from the players cause they lost somehow the drafting and had to go for alternative civs, such method is preventing players to specialize some crazy BO, i think 1 or 2 civ bans and no repeat rule could bring more competitive games since the players can prepare better.

And lastly the map was also a key factor, several matches were won or lost cause of the hills and resources in the same spot, memb was happy to see players going 1 tc full but that is not the essence of arabia, that is more socotra meta, arabia like maps have to offer both defensive and agressive gameplay a fair ground, after having kotd map in the ranked games you get tired of the lack of flat woodlines or no space to even make town centers.

Best tournament in a long time. Loved the organization, all the extra things, stats, cocasters and everything.

I just don't like the observer thing, never showing what the casters are talking about. Loved the final day in that regard.

I love you memb and I know the observer simplifies things for the caster, but it's worse for the viewer.

No, it wasnt. It cost much. He needed mass army that time. Invested too much into monks and upgrades

When they watch a competition people want to see both sides play well unless they are strongly pulling for or against one of them.

Great tournament! Thanks to all involved! I was especially impressed and pleased with Vinchester's performance. It was great to see what he could achieve when not wasting a game on Goths. (I love Goths too, but c'mon.)
