Concluding Thoughts
We had many talks prior to the tournament announcement about what kind of format and settings we wanted, and while I will not promise we will use the exact same settings again, I have absolutely no regrets with the system we chose to use this time around. A lot of this is also thanks to the community that always, for the better and the worse, shares their opinions and ideas for how things can be run and how things can improve - I am very grateful for this.
I am also very grateful for the players - working with them behind the scenes with scheduling and anything else related to them has been a breeze. When Memb first told me that he thought about having live games from the group stage and onwards, I thought he had absolutely lost it at that point; however, as most of you have hopefully experienced, live games went remarkably smooth. Big credit to all the players for being on time and allow us to keep a tight schedule with very minimal down-time. The difference between today and just a few years ago is astonishing in terms of professionalism - and it makes my life a lot easier.
This post would not feel complete if I did not mention the map. It was an interesting experience to create the custom version of Arabia that we got to experience throughout the event. Generally, I like to work on more complex or unique concepts, so when I first started this project, it felt a little underwhelming to work on a map that is so well-established and relatively simple in design. However, as the development went on, it was exciting to try and use every bit of knowledge I had in an attempt to create an incredibly competitive environment while still keeping it very open and under the limitations of what random map scripting has to offer.
Hopefully, we can all quietly forget the atrocious generations we saw in the first round - this was fortunately immediately fixed and was no longer seen in any matches going forward.
I keep track of everything I think can be improved upon during any tournament I administrate, and I take note of all the feedback we have received before, during and after the event. There is many things we can still do better and things we can improve upon, and we are always thriving to better ourselves for the next event. Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to give us feedback.
Thanks to the great sponsors and thanks to MembTV for allowing this event to happen. Thanks to Rorarimbo for being a helping hand in pretty much all situations where needed. He also had a big say in how things turned out. Thanks to Nerfox for the excellent spreadsheet, I am sure you all know him by now, and thanks to Niko for making the vast majority of graphics during the event.
Congratulations to all the players and especially Liereyy that finally managed to wear the crown after being the runner-up in the previous two instalments - much deserved!
Thank you everyone!
