Now that R1 is over I figured I would post my impressions of the matches so far, would love to hear other people‘s opinions as well. I’ll probably follow up with a more detailed post later.
-I feel for some of the players who lost in 50-50 type matchups (Capoch, Jordan, Lan, saymyname etc). BO3 is a very unforgiving format and can easily go either way. I think all of those guys I mentioned could’ve won their matchups on a different day, just a combination of a tough opponent and probably being a bit off their game. In a BO7 you have time to figure things out as you go, not in a BO3.
-Riut’s performance against saymyname was excellent. I’m really excited to see how he does against TheMax in the next round. That’s an amazing matchup.
-Most surprising upset of the first round was chart beating Fire 2-0 for me. The second game in particular was fantastic with many twists and turns.
-Speaking of great second games, the Daniel-Jordan Vikings vs. Malians war was simply aguasome. I really thought if Jordan won that game he would win the set, but Daniel did a good job of bouncing back in the decider.
-DauT looked really strong. I know Hearttt is far from his best right now but that’s still not a player anyone wants to see as a first round opponent and he made it look routine.
-Classicpro was impressive to me even in defeat against Liereyy. He didn’t come close to winning either game but it was refreshing to see him go aggressive and somewhat outside the box... showed he was really trying to win not just survive for some type of moral victory. Easier said than done against the best players. I respect that and look forward to watching him in future tournaments.
-Didn’t catch any of the other streams but just want to say Memb’s stream was fantastic as always. I love the enthusiasm he brings to the game and how he brings a big game feel to these tournament matches.
-Round of 32 is going to be insane, can’t wait!
