But, to go back to the poker example, if I lay my cards out on the table, can I then tell people not to look? If I am sharing my hand on social media in real time, can I claim due diligence for keeping my hand secret?

I think the answer is "no" to the first idea and "yes" to the second, and that stream sniping is cheating. But I don't think it is a foolish question.

I would say that you can make it sound like an interesting question in terms of precise wording and definitions of things, but practically it is an absolut obvious, trivial question where basically almost 100% of people would inter-subjectively give the same answer (except when they have an egoistic motivation to argue against the obvious)

The only questionable scenario would be when players would need to actively put effort to avoid cheating. Like, when I join your Discord channel and give you informations, would you need to kick me immediately and what do you do with the informations? Happens with backseat gamers who give infos in the chat sometimes, players struggle because,using the information is kinda cheating but actively not using the information is also weird sometimes.

But as long as you still have to actively search for the informations and you do that on purpose, it's a very obvious case.

Just to mention that even if there was a legal relevance here, this argument is not necessarily correct. E.g. in Germany even if you put your stuff somewhere openly and put a sign on it "take it if you want", taking it would still be theft. (Yes, that's stupid but it's still how it is)

I realize I may have been wrong here. There are apparently exceptions when someone obviously has the intention to get rid of it. Pretty sure that was different years ago. I believe the point was about knowing (agreeing to) the receiver.

Interesting, opposite to that in Turkey we have a concept of "bread on hanger", which means that it is free to take for people in need. It is also possible to pay gas/electricity bill of somebody else online, you just have to upload your bill to system and somebody else will pay for you as a charity and it is all official websites.

This is the typical WEIRD comment that is expected in an English-language bulletin board. The assumption of universalist values because the majority of people in the cosmopolitan internet space share them. The conversation began with a Turkish player that I believe is sincere and is not merely justifying his own bad behavior is what made me challenge my priors.

Or it's just an example of a wrong comment that is expected in any sort of discussion. I don't think that's much about values, more about logic, but I very much tend to overrate logical abilities of people, so idk. Maybe I'll do a vote on Reddit.
