Is AoE2 DE Dynastie over?

It's not about showing practice runs on stream. It's about showing that you (player/streamer) still give a **** about AoE 2 to your audience. If you drop AoE 2 completely and don't play a single match for several weeks, lots of your audience might not even show up for AoE 2 tournament you participate in. I don't think it would hurt the streamers to do an AoE 2 game here and there or at least remind people there's still plenty of stuff to look forward to in the future.

Memb has already announced that Battle of Africa is coming in 2022 but he also said that depending on how KotD 4 does, we might see an even bigger tournament in the future. With how the moods in the community are right now, I'm worrying that KotD 4 will heavily underperform which would affect future tournaments too as they won't look like a good idea to the sponsors anymore. I really really hope I'm wrong about this but I can't help noticing all sorts of things, looking at them realistically.

Players/public figures aren't obligated to provide advertisement for KotD 4, yes. However it wouldn't cost them much to hype it up a bit and in fact it would be in their best interest to help the tournament do well, even if merely for monetary reasons of cashing in during future tournaments - unless they plan to drop AoE 2 completely which I hope isn't the case, at least Viper clearly expressed he doesn't want to do that which makes me relieved to some extent. Hera saying he's already accomplished everything he wanted in AoE 2, when asked about his plans for KotD 4 (context matters!), doesn't help in easing the worries. Arabia used to be "his" map but apparently he doesn't mind never reaching top4 of the biggest Arabia tournament? He won one huge event (Hidden Cup 4) and that's where his ambition for the game ends completely? I don't think that's the case but unfortunately that's the message he's sending with such a reply.

Finally, Nili... such a dismissive comment "I don't see myself casting Vivi vs BacT best of 5 Arabia right now", refusing to elaborate further, just leaving it at that... that's outright harmful. He doesn't have to cast all the matches, hell, he doesn't have to cast anything at all if he doesn't enjoy it at the moment but to put it out so bluntly, with no extra cushion of showing basic form of respect to one of the biggest tournaments ever... I'm unable to see his attitude in positive light.
There's also the fact he's a tournament coordinator for all Age of Empires games but I'm not even gonna attempt to think of how the role and said actions tie in together, that would only hurt, will leave it for other people to draw conclusions...

Age 4 is the love-child of Age 2 and SC 2, with regard to game characteristics and, as a result, to the playing community. From MS perspective that could be a genius idea, if the devs are able to fix the massive competetiveness issues the game apparently has in its current form (and they get a lot of constructive feeback, so why they shouldn't be able to do so).
I mean, how often have people speculated, how top Age 2 players can compete against top SC 2 players on "neutral turf"? Now we (kind of) have that.

A big question in sports psychology is, how to find the motivation to go into the same competition over and over again with a "fresh" mindset, and I can understand that many of the Age 2 top experts (especially those heavily involved also in streaming) will rather prefer this new competition over going back into the grinder of a game with basically fully developed meta, just to see which of the top4 is currently the best or which of the top10/top16 can shine on a good day.
People who think that this will just go away after some months are either quite naive, or believe in extraordinary incompetence of the Age 4 devs.

Now, to my eyes all the SC 2 components of Age 4 look ugly as hell, and I know that I will never play or like to watch this game. And obviously, I am a bit sad about what's going on.
So, I will in the future probably not watch Age on Twitch or Youtube like before, but what's the big deal? Maybe, I will spend the time playing myself, or doing whatever is fun.
But first, I will be hyped about and enjoy KotD 4!

Btw., a big aspect of the Age 2 competetive scene already heavily suffered long ago, and that is team games.

I think Memb made a very good point on the end of this video:

He bascially said that he'd like that people would do 80% AOE IV and 20% AOE II. While I agree with that sentiment that it would be great to promote KOTD, I just thought maybe it would be a good Idea to sponsor a showmatch between KOTD players that gets a good reach on Age IV stream. Probably would mean you'd have to get Hera at this rate as Lierrey and MBL are not streaming that consistend.

Also I have seen some pro players mention that right now its very hard to find games in AOE II DE, Villese and bruh played some lobby games for example, but that only came to pass because bruh asked Villese in his stream.

Apart from that: Its only 2 weeks, Age IV is gonna continue at least until KOTD starts and then lets see.
Would there maybe an option to promote KOTD on Genesis? I mean its organised by AOE II people as well right?

T90 is promoting Aoe2 a lot on the Genesis cast though. His comparisons with Aoe2 also help someone like me who hasn't watched Aoe4 at all get an idea of what's happening. Awesome.

Nili dismissing kotd in masmorra interview was absolute BS. it was a knife in the back. he has a big place and saying that is not understandable. you just can say nothing and it would be better.

I haven't had problems finding ranked matches on mid-elo. This is a game that has survived for more than 20 years. As one guy pointed above, the player numbers have been stable around 15K in the past weeks... Streamers get healthy viewer numbers when they stream AOE2.

I think if anything affects viewer numbers for KOTD4, it will be the fact that T90 is in Facebook and he won't achieve there the 20k viewer numbers he got for KOTD3, not the release of AOEIV.

The aoe2 players/streamers will comeback sooner than expected, they are several tiers below star craft players, viper and hera our best players are 1100 and not even the best sc2 players are 1400-1500 already, aoe2 skills have no impact in aoe4.

I watched the final like many others and this game is so slow. In aoe2 more and more action happens as time goes by, in aoe4 it feels like action and pace remains monotonous throughout

Yes, seems very slow to me, just building up to one fight most games. And the battles are not enjoyable to watch. The military move so slow and clumsily. It was nice background noise for Sunday nap, but next time I will just check liquipedia after.

Sorry but battles in AoE4 just aren't interesting and due to the lack of micro there are really no signature moments to point to (I encourage anyone to prove me wrong on this with a clip from today's games). It's pretty much just a macro and decision making game and while there's nothing wrong with that it's just not exciting to watch.

Cool to see Viper do well though. Really seems like the only thing left for him to prove in RTS is to tryhard SC2 for a few months to see how far he can go there.

I agree, there are micro acpects but not like we are used too. More about positioning, pulling back etc. but it is not as memorable as in aoe2.

Not only that but I heard him say in an interview that he beat this guy once (in a small online cup, but still). That's a global finals semifinalist right there. So yeah, would be cool to see him give it a go there. It'd certainly be more interesting than watching him play aoe4.

i agree 100%. I was really open-minded and (kind of) looking forward to that tournament. Then i watched a bit of Vipers quarterfinal and it was so freakin boring to watch.

It was nice to see that T90 did not try to artificially hype it up., Even the casters seemed so a bit bored of this trash game.

It may be fun to play, but to watch competetively is like watchin paint dry. Land maps are like 3/10 excitement while maps with a lot of water are literally 0/10
