It literally makes me sad that everyone from the pro/semipro scene is moving to AoE4... Yesterday when i checked AoE2 DE had like 600 viewers while AoE4 had 50k +

I have absolutely no interest in AoE4. I'm too old to start learning a new game. I'll wait until people get bored or the money dries up and they come back to AoE2 and if that doesn't happen, I'll survive!

It's normal for a new game to get a lot of hype in the beginning. Aoe2 is not going anywhere, the interest might decline a bit for some time but people will eventually come back. And remember KOTD4 is coming soon which is one of the best events of Aoe2.

AoE4 isn't going to stick as a competitive game without unduly heavy cash injections from Microsoft unless all the issues brought up in initial reviews are adequately addressed and even then I don't think it is a guaranteed thing because of the design fundamentals.

AOE4 has a lot of potential by the way, but first thing first they need to fix the graphic and balancing problems. Almost hurt my eyes to play and watch the game.

Every time I try to watch aoe4 I have to turn it off after half a minute because of what a piece of trash game it is. I would be embarassed to tell anyone this is the game I love to play. When units fight they just hit air, homing arrows, many area of effect gimmicks, stupid winconditions, no ctrl group customization...

And the concept is confusing to me, asymmetric civ design but already 7 civs? Will they add more in the future? Why not start with 3-4 civs and build it up slowly? They probably will add more in the future to justify dlcs which will make the game a nightmare to balance and master. They want to approach casual players however the gameplay will be rather complicated. Do they see players main one civ as in sc2 or more random as in aoe2?

If only some of this budget was available during aoe2DE development.

I should say I've not actually played AoE4 since release, but based on what I've seen so far, I feel rumours of DE's demise are greatly exaggerated.

It is true, these two things are extremely unsatisfying and make the game feel cheap and cartoonish.

The more i watch aoe4 streams the less interested i am with the game, not even the campaigns look attractive and i actually have played the campaigns on previous aoe games.

That game has something that we aoe2 players can't stay looking at it, it doesn't matter how much the aoe influencers tries to convince us that they had a blast with the game or that the enjoyed it, as expected that game is not going to share the same viewers, it will have its own.

The aoe4 promotion of the last days seems to be a bigger budget than aoe2 de and hd got together 11, i mean random ANZ medieval fights, the mountain, wallstreet, trebuchets real size here and there, sadly the graphics are so bad, that they had to advertise aoe logos and drawings instead of actual gameplay.

From what i've seen , the more popular streamers are being followed by their viewers even when they play aoe4; these days aoe4 viewers outweigh by a LOT aoe2 viewers

i am with the majority over here.
cant watch it, fights are awfull, graphics too, units move weird, 100% accuracy is just nonsense, and a lot more things.
i dont see aoe4 competitive scene. its just not there.
now the hype is real because is 2 days in the market. i think in 6 months, a lot of people will be back.
more, now with kotd, the hype with aoe2 will go up again.
then BoA will also be a thing, plus HC, and other tournaments.
i see the 2022 maybe a little down on prices, but 2023 will be up again.
a real LAN TG tournament for AoE2 will be epic.

I am actually a bit surprised that only few Aoe2 pros managed to get into a good position in the Aoe4 ladder yet. Potentially the style of the game suits SC2 players a bit more.

This may also be a good sign for the Aoe2 scene as probably most high level Aoe2 players will just want to go back to their beloved game asap after the current "hype phase" for age 4

As DE shows, what can dethrone AoE II is a better AoE II.
I don't see AoE IV having staying power once the hype subsides. Unless a big company wants to inject tons of money into tournaments. But popularity earned this way is not organic like it is with AoE II, and is as fickle as streaming for a career.
