Pike's attempt at being c.ocky and interesting while at the same time sharing some information about his favorite civilizations and his own mental status.
Two build wonders and two 2:0 victories vs Goku and Lojza. On paper, both of these wins have been upsets, but the series didn't play out like that at all. Surprised? And, let's get the most important question out of the way early: Which wonder that you've built was prettier?
Pike: Facing Goku and Lojza was motivating. Two powerful opponents straight away instead of being forced to bash lower rated opponents was just what I needed to find the strength to bring my A game each week.
Wonders are the new way of beating opponents on water maps. In Conquest games you were always forced to go for water, but now you have a new, better option. Go for wonder or for relics while holding your own land vs an enemy who has a lot of population invested in water army.
The Hunnic wonder is the prettiest. A pile of roman gold on a roman monument(?).
Before your games Lojza said that "I won't need it, it's only Pike" when I wished him good luck. After the lost series against you he blamed the "******ed map" and your perfect adaptation to it for his loss. Are you into the map and the settings? If the answer is yes: If you and your map MegaRandom are "******ed", how would you describe Lojza and his home map Arena? If not: What's your favorite map?
Pike: Yes, I rate myself 'very ******ed' and MR is just as ******ed as I am.
I don't enjoy Arena too much, it is more for old men like Lojza who enjoy their walls. MR and similar weird map packs have always been my favorite.
Next up is Chinese legend Tim, who has roughly played 468 practice games with his friends on Voobly China. My sources tell me that you practiced at least twice as much, right? Are you ready to take the next high seed out of the tournament and stop the potential all Chinese clash of Tim / Mr_Yo?
Pike: Well, just by looking at the settings I knew this was a tournament made for me. I am 100% confident that I am going to beat Tim and whoever I will meet in the semi and grand final.
If you win vs Tim only one out of DauT/mentalist/Mr_Yo is standing between you and a place in the final. Who would you expect to be the biggest challenge? Do you have realistic ambitions of winning the event and therefore the 500 USD prize?
Pike: Mentalist comes from the strongest team by far so even though the players are evenly matched, mentalist is gonna be the one.
Your three favorite civilizations for MegaRandom and why? Do they change between Dark Age and Castle Age starts?
Pike: Turks, Vikings & Byzantines
All of them have some interesting play styles in Castle Age start games, but I'm not gonna reveal them here... :P
Haven't really thought about Dark Age starts as I don't plan to play any of those games.
What's the upside to starting in Castle Age? What's the downside? Would you say starting in Castle Age helps or hinders your own game?
Pike: I find Castle Age starts way more enjoyable. Faster games, more unit combos, more fun.
I find myself lacking in normal 1v1 games, but in this tourney I can be just as creative I want... even with Longswordsmen.
