I'm liking the AoE4 community

First of all I know AoE4 still has a long way to go (missing custom hotkey, unclear tech tree, camera settings, civ balance etc.), and a lot of the criticisms of the game is totally justified. I'm also not trying to make distinction or categorize between, say AoE2 or AoE4 community because it's never exclusive. I'm just saying the community of those who follow or play AoE4 feels awesome.

It's actually really exciting to see players from like SC2, AoE3 and AoE2 blend together. SC players bringing out their great timing attacks, while Age players displaying their great eco proficiency. Players, content creators, viewers... People are trying to figure out the game together, learning from each other, and formulate build orders or strategies. I even saw SC players asking Hera for tips and suggestions for booming in the comments of his videos.

The community just feels really wholesome. AoE4 has a lot of problems and drawn a lot of criticisms, but you can see many of its fans defending it as well. You can tell some of them really like the game.

I'm actually really excited for the first big AoE4 tournament now. Can't wait to see and get to know all the great players (and castors) from the other RTS games, and watch them competing against some of our favourite AoE2 players!

thats what 6 years (last sc2 campaign) rts drought brings you. Also Wc3 reforged was a fail product. AoE 4 has just the perfect timing, because rts players and fans want desperately something new.
The question here is, if AoE 4 will actually hold some of those players or they will leave again after the hype is down. That will depend on how fast the updates will come in and how big the prize pools will be.

yeah, we've been playing the same game for 20 years because we desperately want something new...

the rts majority wants something new since the last sc2 addon came out, especially after the wc3 reforged desaster. I'm not talking about Aoe2 exclusively. It's no coincidence, that Aoe4 has so many streamer right now and thats not because it's such a good competitive rts game. Its just something new in the dried up rts world.

Why not upgrade to windows 10? I think it can still be done for free if you know where to look, right?

Still doable for free, you can in fact get a win10 limited version without paying a cent but it will not allow u to personalize some stuff.

Currently I'm using my PC (which is also pretty old) to play some pretty old games, I'm worried if upgrading to Win 10 would cause compatibility problems.

On top of that I had terrible experience using win10. My PC at work is win10 and it feels like they force-bundled a lot of features into the system, making it slow. Also, system services and anti-malware executables running in the background often horrendously causes 99% CPU or disk usage for no apparent reason at all and render the computer unusable for quite a while.

Maybe people have good enough computers to carry the system so they don't have such issues..... but I think it's a terrible idea for my 6-year old computer

You might want to try out Windows 10 in a non-professional settings. I have the same experience with Windows 10 in my office laptops/desktops/workstations. Everything takes at least 2x or3x compared to my PC. The workstations in my office have dozens of cores and 100gb+ ram. This is because their is a lot of bloatware added by my office IT. For reference my laptop is also 6 years old and runs without any issues.
