Well it might be exaggerated that Trump "created" that state. Though I do feel he has pushed it alot, cause its one of the core parts of his success, even before he ran for president. He has always pushed the name "trump" as a brand and thats where his main success is.I would potentially agree with you but I don't. He certainly didn't create the culture where TRUTH doesnt matter anymore. It was already there. That being said I don't disagree with you when a lot of the stuff he says is just plain wrong/obnoxious/hypocritical. However, although I find him rude/etc, I prefer that situation where people can (within reason) speak their mind and not be censored because it disagrees with the media/subgroups.
At the last set of elections, the two final candidates being Clinton and Trump posed a difficult question. Trump has his own issues which have already been elaborated on. However Clinton (to me and a lot of others) had a more insidious side. Already speech is being curtailed and fake news goes more ways than one.
A very strong recent example is the Nick Sandmann case: media tore into him based on a few out of context social media clips and death threats all over the country came his way. When full footage of the event came, it totally shed a different story.
On one side, fakenews is put out on a large scale, on the other micro scale, ad hominum attacking people without full context/based on moral/religious values. This micro scale holds more terror for some people.
The problem with America is the 2 party duopoly. As @JoshuaR mentioned there are certain issues such as e.g Abortion/Gay marriage/etc/etc which there is no question a lot of Americans are divided on. Then there is economic/climate/other policies. So the question for many is, which do they hold to more importance, human/religious issues or global/economic issues. If say, abortion is the burning issue on the voter, if they are for-abortion, they currently vote democrat and if anti-abortion, they vote republican.
With regard to independent media, there is no question that it is heavily biased in certain world views also. For example, in Ireland leading up to the abortion referendum:
- media reported on every small pro-abortion march
- media didn't bother reporting in anti-abortion marches of over 100,000 people multiply times or massively underplayed numbers
- media knowingly reported that the pro-abortion banner head case of Savita Halappanavar (who tragically died due to hospital mismanagement and diagnoses and incompetence and under-funding of healthcare in the country) died due to lack of the abortion option
In terms of politician promises with regard to regulations surrounding abortion, they are laughable how fast they were broken. Furthermore, in terms of funding it (whether you are pro-abortion or anti-abortion [which I would be and happy to discuss]), the fact remains that claiming to bring it in in the context of for women's health and safety and then reallocating the funding budgeted for the maternity hospitals in Ireland to provide the abortion service is simply hypocritical.
So yeah, one side is spreading lies and false news, but so is the other, all over the world. The culture where truth does matter has been growing the last 40+ years. Finally:
John 18:38(a): Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?
And I guess theres tons of stuff to discuss about the american voting system, the duopoly, how u nicely called it, certainly supports the black-and-white mentality. And yes if the democrats had a "better" candidate, the world might have been able to avoid trump.
I just think theres a HUGE difference in advertising a certain side of a problem, so u are more likely to get what u want ( thats sth politicians, and not only them, do all over the world) vs straight up lieing about sth. I cant imagine an important politic, even less the head of state, to be proven of deliberately lieing even a couple of times wihtout loosing their position.
I dont want to call this an "american" thing, cause i don't know enough to know if thats correct. I did follow enough of Donald Trump, that I know its true atm and I fail to believe peole KNOW about it and accept it, for whatever reason.
