Hey there folks,
I've been seeing some discussions about running events with the community's support in a more direct way. AFAIK, most single-streamer events use a donation method of saying, "donate to me, and X will go to the prize pool". This is cool if a single popular streamer does it, but sometimes events are organized by the community without a single streamer taking on the responsibility.
For that reason, I present you with a quick and easy guide on getting a Matcherino event set up. I ran a handful of them and have even become a partner. (I don't get paid for any of this, FYI). also, there is no reason why a single streamer couldn't do this if they wanted.
Step 1: Before Matcherino
Create the bracket on Challonge, Smash.gg, Toornament, any bracket site, or on Matcherino itself. For the first few, you should be able to figure it out. To create the bracket on Matcherino itself, jump to Step 2.
Step 2: Creating the Tournament
Go to Matcherino and create an account. Once there, click "create" on the top bar.
You will load a new page, where on the left side of the screen, you will be able to create a new tournament. The big red button. Start filling out the info about the event.
Go to crowdfunding and add a goal (you don't have to reach this, it is just to tempt people into adding more). Same with stretch goals, though obviously, those can be things like show matches, paying for casters, etc. Fill out as needed, save.
Entry can be done if you want players to pay a sum to play. This pairs best with having the bracket itself in Matcherino since you don't need to cross-check. Here you can also add custom questions or request they join a discord before joining the bracket. Again, this all works better if you host the bracket itself in Matcherino.
In Prize Pool, you are going to list all the spots that get prizes. You can do either dollar amount or percentage (highly recommend percentage). You can also add staff, say, for example, the cut the Admin of the event gets; for example, 2-5% or flat $20.
Ignore marketplace for now, as you are not partnered.
In the Brackets section, you can build the bracket on the site, as explained earlier, or you can just link it from the outside. Personally, I like to use an outside bracket. AoE4 is well supported in Smash.gg, so I use that for the event running with Matcherino as the crowdfunding site.
After you checked everything is good to go. Go back up to Actions and select the publish option. After that, anyone will be able to see your event, if you didn't toggle Disable Joining this Tournament at the top, they will also be able to join the Matcherino event.
Step 3: Payouts
Matcherino uses Paypal/bank where available, so it should work with 90% of people. AFAIK they only take their cut when a player moves their winnings out of Matcherino and into Paypal. I think its like 3%, but I am not 100% sure.
After the event is over:
If it's your first event, you will be asked to fill out a verification form, which means getting the stream vod, and other details down for Matcherino to confirm the event actually took place and you aren't scamming anyone. They might ask you to do this for a few events, eventually, you will get verified, which means you no longer have to.
Example:
Here is my tournament, The Warchief Club. Small event, and now that I am partnered, I can also add things in the marketplace and sponsors quests to allow people to do other things besides just donating.
