It will force you to be uncomfortable and plan around your and other civs strengths and weaknesses.
Funny enough, I did a persian douch nothing experiment on the ladder and reached ~1300 by that strat. Feels bad manSays the guy that goes Inca trush every time. 11
My top twenty tricks for staying at the 1300 level:
1. Play only sporadically. Like ten games in a couple days, then none for three weeks.
2. Watch slam's stream to learn new ways to get down on yourself (thanks pseudo).
3. Drink before playing.
4. For team games, ask your allies to mess with their mics so that it sounds like they're underwater (if you use voice). If you don't use voice, you're already in a good place because DE randomly delays your chat for about thirty seconds half the time, and censors it the other half.
5. Rather than perfect any one strategy or build, mix it up every time. E.G. after your pocket scouts in a team game, play a 1v1 and do a meso-civ drush-FC, but forget to mine gold.
6. Rather than NOT walling, I suggest wasting villager time by making walls with holes in them.
7. Choose civ colors like gray or orange so that you cannot see your own units or sheep.
8. Choose micro or macro, never both. IE, either your drush is useless but your build is okay, or you mess with their eco and hold onto your militia but have 16 villagers chopping wood.
9. Try to move out with your archers when they are most likely to get completely swamped by melee units. Delay fletching.
10. Persian douche.
11. Assume that a few knights can beat a bunch of shotels. Who the heck goes shotels anyway?
12. Constantly mess with your in-game zoom. See everything but fail to click on things, or see nothing but click slightly better.
13. Have overlapping hotkeys so that when you try to shift-create units, you instead "Go To" some other building.
14. Add hotkeys to your mouse's extra buttons, but somehow fail to figure out how to disable the mouse's default action for that extra button which makes your DPI go into turbo mode. Constantly try to use these mouse hotkeys. Alt-Tab, open your mouse settings, unplug and plug your mouse back in. Bonus feature though is if it's a team game, you can blame your mouse.
15. Wait until late at night to play so that you don't have any distractions (like alertness).
16. Try to play all your ranked 1v1s as the "first game of the day." Do this for every ranked 1v1.
17. Shoot your boar with your TC. On accident.
18. Shift click your sheep villagers to the next sheep. Then shift click them to the incoming boar. Then watch in horror as they murder another sheep before assisting with the boar. Forget that you shift-clicked to the sheep. (Though to be honest, I am sure that I don't.)
19. Assume you can quick wall. You can't.
20. Reaffirm to yourself your unique skill at this game. Know that you COULD be good if you just played/practiced more. Make sure all of twitch chat benefits from your immense game knowledge. Rest peacefully in the knowledge that having played this game since 1999 allows you to maintain your skill without effort ("We talkin' 'bout practice!").
Do you really need that , man <?Hello all,
I'm a long-time AOE player (since 1999) and came back to the game with the new DE release. I've been playing arabia 1v1 more than before (I used to do Michi, black forest, etc) but find I'm consistently getting stuck at the 1300 level. I watch the pro channels (hera, viper, etc) and their guides such as road to 2k, but even after playing 100+ 1v1 arabia games I've plateaud at the 1300 level. I am trying to minimize idle time and run my economy smoothly and have bene trying to stick to a straightforward civ (Britons) and yet I am consistently getting stuck.
How have people been able to get better? I feel no progress with just "grinding" games amd I see lots of the people that I play with also have ~1300 ratings despites sometimes as many as 1500 games played on ranked 1v1.
Thanks for the tips.
