Hidden Cup 3 Main Event is here!

I'm excited to announce Hidden Cup 3 will be casted using an overlay created by the Capture Age team! The Hidden Cup 3 overlay was designed and built specifically for Hidden Cup 3 and I have been funding the development time. They are hoping to make a more generally usable version of the overlay available to others at some time in the future, but they cannot make any guarantees. I will be posting videos using this over the next few days and feedback is very much appreciated as we close in on Hidden Cup 3!

From Microsoft's contribution $35,000 will be used towards the prizepool and the remaining amount will cover costs & promotions for the event. For HC2 I spent roughly $10,000 out of pocket and Microsoft's generosity will ensure all parties involved in HC3 get paid for their work without extreme stress on my part. I am contributing $1 per Twitch Subscriber at conclusion of HC3 (minimum of $5,000), meaning current and future supporters of the channel contribute towards the event.

 

Oh, that overlay is an improvement in DE, but almost a step back compared to the overlay in HC2, which was great. But I get it. I don't have any ideia of the technical difficulties of making something like that and can only thank the CA guys for messing around with it yet again.

Just watched Two castles -video. CA for DE looks good, maybe little messy. Hope that upgrades would be shown whole time.

Yes, but no. The overlay which Nili used is an in game mod (you may have seen myself and others using it since then) but the HC3 casting overlay uses an in game mod and an additional program as it is far more involved.

I am not a spokesman by any means for Capture Age, but the big difference with that was they essentially reproduced what was going on in a game in real time in their own program, which allowed the infinite levels of zoom and what not. Whereas here we are still confined to the limits within DE2 and all controls are done within the game.

I didn't take it as criticism my friend! The speed issues of DE are largely due to DE itself. Since we are doing recorded games for 95% of this event there will be no speed issues (yet another thing in the plus column for recs :P) Despite MS claiming the issues were fixed in the latest patch it definitely was not, we're game planning so it's hopefully not a concern for the finals.

 

I just created my bracket prediction for Hidden Cup 3! TAKE A LOOK!

I have King Sancho and Princess Yodit running rampant in the top half of the bracket. Only for King Sancho (Dave's favorite) to get destroyed by some sneaky strategies Princess had prepared in the semi finals. In the bottom half of the bracket Emperor in a Barrel shows no mercy and sweeps every single opponent until the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals goes to the 7th game and Princess Yodit loses in a 5 hour long brits vs khmer hideout game.

Emperor in a Barrel is champion and is later revealed to be DauT, while Princess Yodit was Hera(turns out Viper was Charles Martel who lost 3-0 to DauT in R1. What a surprise!!)

Man, these guys are legends. Imagine making such a great overlay and spending (as you said) thousands of hours for free. That in itself is ridiculous. Then up comes Microsoft and uproots the community and in a way, it seems the work went to waste. But these guys are back at it again. Praise for their work cannot be overstated.

- regarding the bottom: it will be designed to work with T90s OBS overlay in the tournamen and be (hopefully :D) way less bulky and intrusive.
- regarding the top: between playernames there will be additional matchinfo like score, Bo5, winhistory etc, see our reddit post for reference.
- sizing wise: we tried to make something that works for mobile users as well since this is a big event and will have many viewers on youtube/twitch with some using lower resolutions and smaller screens.

I suspect this is due to a limitation of how the in-game overlay works - many panels aren't able to be resized.

well it is more advanced than that since its not just a json mod with the ingame ui, but an external application. enabling us to show stuff like unitproduction and researches like we want to, toggle stuff, and do custom stats like value %g, resources over time etc. and i dont believe u can show info of multiple players at the same time with the ingame modding system

First day was amazing, great games and the overlay is fantastic. Only change I would like to see is that T90 doesn't give his guesses right as the polls are happening and rather waits till the chat has given their guesses. What he says always has a dramatic effect on the polls.
