I dont see how it's selfish to go a meetup that's allowed by official rulings

It's not selfish, just ignorant. You need to look into how this thing spreads and why it's so important that everyone does their bit to help delay the spread. This is the biggest health crisis of our time. Maybe the "official rulings" haven't been updated yet, but you can see the way things are going. Just stay home a bit more for a few weeks. You know whats selfish AND ignorant? Buying masks to fight corona, while it doesnt really help at all. Meanwhile people that actually legit need it for their job are running out.

Let us consider the humble villager. We, as the overlords of the game have to make the tough decisions and tell them what they have to do. Go woodcut, go make a farm, that is the easy stuff. I often send 5 brave villagers to the enemy to make towers. I tower, I get rekt I have to retreat. Oh no, there is a single knight chasing my 5 villagers. What do I do?

This is the governments role in the situation. They are thinking about what is best for the country, not what is best for you. We know people are going to die. The plan is to avoid the countries healthcare service getting rekt. They have taken advice themselves and been told that there is about a 2 week timeframe you can most likely enforce an Italy style shutdown. So what you can take from that is that they would like to shut down the country if they could, but they want to use their 2 week window at a peak. Listen to Boris Johnsons words from last night, he is attempting to scare people into doing it voluntarily without telling people to.

Everyone will get this at some point over the next few years. The game is to allow everyone to get it at a speed we can cope with (and then hopefully at some point next year we have a vaccine). The UK gov wants to use their 2 week window at the best time possible. People do still need to get this slowly. That is pretty key, we need people to get this virus and become immune, however we need this slowly.

Thank you for volunteering yourself, your family and everyone you meet to have a higher risk of getting this virus and then spreading it to potentially high risk people. A nice bold move to add any risk to your loved ones lives simply so you can watch an Age of Empires 2 DE tournament with friends. Do you consider the meet up a complete must for the country to avoid economic meltdown?

I take you back to the start of this post. Of my 5 villagers I have selected iViktorious and his high risk family member who happened to be in the 5 villagers. I send one east and one west, luring the knight away from the other 3 villagers allowing them to self isolate in my TC safely. Thank you for your service and following orders to a T.

I apologize to Ricojay, he was thinking big, he was thinking like the government. You are thinking like a villager, simply doing as you are told. My 3 villagers thank you and your family.

I am not saying panic, I am not saying go out in the woods and live there for 2 months, I am saying don't do things that are clearly not necessary. I would prefer to get this when much more is known about it, but maybe that is just me.

What I don't understand is why people like you or theHand only think in extremes. Literally NOONE here asked you to go to the supermarket, buy 10 tons of toilet paper and run around screaming "WE WILL ALL DIE!!!111"

You may have noticed that the measures taken increase drastically pretty much every day. At some point, one could conclude that it's a good idea to question some stuff with regard to whether it is really necessary with the goal to prevent the necessity for even more drastic measures.

Going to the meetup will not endanger humanity. It's unlikely to have any major effect at all, really
The point here isn't really that if you go to the meetup then there will be a massive outbreak of infections in the country, you will end transferring your virus to your parents/grandparents and they'll die or whatever. In a sense you're right. The population of UK(and London) is too large, and the scale of this event is too small to have any actual major impact on its own. You are also right that in the end you are all grown adults and nobody can stop you from going to that meetup, unless the govt itself decides to do what many other countries did already, and recommend that all people stay at home.


Instead I think the best analogy to this situation is the case of climate change. We all know that climate change is happening, it's real, and that if we don't do anything about it might kill(some of) us sometime in the future. At the same time, given the massive scale of the problem, it's unlikely that if we tried to individually change our living habits, that it could lead to climate change being stopped on its own. The world is too big, the world is too big, and the responsibility for climate change is, for the most part, on massive corporations and other countries.
Does that mean that we - as individuals living in one of the more developed countries - are allowed to just shrug the climate change off and say that we can't change anything on our own? No, because even if we're unlikely to make a change on our own, if we try - and then others around try aswell - then it can be actually impactful. Similarly here: this meetup is unlikely to change that much on its own. But if you decide against hosting it either way, change temporarily the way you live, and other people in the city, country, and other countries do so aswell, then the problem of the virus might just become easier to handle.

And that's what it means to be socially responsible I guess. If you don't let yourself bear some costs(even if it's just a cost of not having a fun meetup) then other people in the society will have to pay these costs for you, often much higher.

Nobody wants you to go into full isolation mode, to sit at home for next 6 months doing nothing, but also nobody wants you to go on with your life normally, I guess. It's not a question of which of the extremes we need to choose(that should never be the question) but of how far we should go on this "isolation scale", to maximize safety and minimize the loss on the way we live. And so with this meetup you are technically allowed to say "The government permits it, and I don't think if it's likely that this meetup can cause much harm, therefore I will attend it", but I guess the whole point is that lots of people in this thread - myself included - think that it's just too much of a risk, and since this isn't exactly a "should I go to cinema or not" style of decision, but it's a thing that actually affects all of us to an extent, I think we are more than allowed to have that opinion and suggest you not to host this meetup. In the end the decision is obviously yours.

This is exactly what I am doing. I had a birthday trip to Newcastle next week. I deem that unnecessary just as I deem a HC3 meet up unnecessary.

No, we'll do basically the same as you:

...just that we think going to AoE meetups (and potentially other meetups) is not necessary and we can live without it for a few weeks while minimizing the risk of exposure.
