Hi everyone,
I have trouble installing WololoKingdoms with my current setup on Linux and was wondering if someone here has some ideas how to fix it.
I installed Steam (with apt) on Ubuntu 18.04 and enabled Steam Beta Update, Steam Play for all titles and Proton 3.16-6 Beta to unlock all games for Linux. From there you can download, install Age of Empires II in Steam normally. You just have to rename AOK.exe to Launcher.exe. AOE2-HD runs flawlessly with Steam on Linux.
Next I installed wine-stable (wine 3.0) and wine mono (wine-mono-4.7.4.msi).
When installing Voobly in wine the only obstacle is, that you have to point Voobly to the path where Steam installed the game and run Voobly's Game Diagnostics. The same goes for HD compatibility patch.
Steam's installation folder should look something like that, if you installed it with apt:
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Age2HD
Voobly with wine + compatiblity patch works fine. At this stage I can comfortably launch and join games through Voobly on Linux.
When I launch the WololoKingdoms 5.7.1 installer in wine I get stuck because WK installer is unable to detect the AoE installation. If I input the path in "Install Directory" nothing changes.
Has anyone tried this setup and has gotten beyond this point? Is there another way to get this working?
