In 2019, Elon Musk confronted the Twitter talking point about his father’s supposed emerald mine head on, writing, “He didn’t own an emerald mine & I worked my way through college, ending up ~$100k in student debt. I couldn’t even afford a 2nd PC at Zip2, so programmed at night & website only worked during day. Where is this bs coming from?”

However, Errol’s involvement in a lucrative mining operation and Elon having to pull himself up by his bootstraps are not mutually exclusive. As Vance wrote in his book Elon Musk, “The family owned one of the biggest houses in Pretoria thanks to the success of Errol’s engineering business,” a business that included “large projects such as office buildings, retail complexes, residential subdivisions, and an air force base.” Elon even admitted his father is “brilliant at engineering” despite being an overall “terrible human being.” And in an interview with Errol from 2018, British tabloid Mail on Sunday wrote, “Musk senior was a millionaire before the age of 30.”

Elon was born on June 28, 1971, to Errol and his wife Maye Musk when they were both in their 20s. This is important because the parents divorced in 1979, nine years after getting married, and it wasn’t until the mid-1980s that the emerald mine in question came into the picture.

The details of the mine stem from stories published on Business Insider South Africa from journalist Phillip de Wet that rely on Errol Musk’s personal account. According to him, Errol became “a half owner” of an emerald mine in Zambia in the ‘80s, though he doesn’t specify a year, and he “got emeralds for the next six years.” That story was preceded by an even more unbelievable one in which he spoke of Elon and his brother Kimbal selling some of the precious stones to Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue off the street.

Other than that first-hand account, there’s not much to be found to corroborate this story. But the counterpoint to the obvious fact that the Musks were well off financially, especially considering their status as a white family in apartheid South Africa, is that Elon, his siblings and Maye had to free themselves from Errol’s abusive relationship. As Maya Kosoff wrote of Maye’s recent memoir, Errol was “was physically, financially and emotionally manipulative and abusive.” When Maye extricated herself from the marriage, she remembers eating peanut butter sandwiches and bean soup, not coasting on riches from an emerald mine.

Over the years there have been whispers that Elon grew up privileged because of his father’s big emerald mine. The Space X billionaire squashed those rumours in a 2019 tweet where he clarified that he worked his own way through college. He also said that the rumours were “BS”.

They were not completely unfounded though because according to TheFamousPeople.com, Errol did own a few shares in an emerald mine in Zambia. Most of his money came from being an engineering consultant and a real-estate developer.

Because he plays at the same level most Arena clowns do, i.e. anywhere between 2k and 2.3k, and both sides ban each other's preferred maps, so they end up matching in some dumb ass map like Golden Pit or MegaRandom, which just takes the overall toxicity to an entirely new level (although Barles, who plays at a much higher level and on several maps, seems to have been on the receiving end as well). Also, the fact that an Alperen supporter felt the need to join arguably the most popular Arena discord to **** talk doesn't quite help.

The real reason is that Alperen and his friends having toxic remarks en toxic gameplay (unpausing game when opponent is brb and such) all the time against ''us'' clowns. and indeed lately even one of them tried to infiltrate the center of the circus and trashtalking us there. We react and now Alperen is innocent ofcourse funny enough this topic only showed he is showing this behavior vs many other opponents as well. So for us its just as laughable as when ertug asks for sponsorship.

It's not the source of toxicity but it exacerbates it, and it's certainly not exclusive to the players mentioned here. After a few games on a **** map like golden pit against the same civs and the same strats, with players laming each other because it's by far and away the best option, and neither player actually having fun regardless of the result, toxicity accumulates.

Sometimes it doesn't have to be recurrent and is merely about the map, though. If you check streams, or even the dashboard every once in a while, you'll find that a lot of players start insulting others because they had X map banned or Y map favourited (the complaint is usually about not playing Arabia, but there are exceptions).

I don't know if the claims about Alperen helping Ertug are true. I would have to assume they are, considering he has not bothered to defend himself against them and is just hoping we will ignore/forget about them.
That being said, I have something to add to this drama, because the claims of DracKeN being racist towards Turkish people are not unfounded. In JonSlow's discord server he went on a rant about Turkish players (something along the lines of "how is it that every Turkish player seems to be toxic or a lamer or a civ picker or a cheater or all of the above, there must be something wrong in their brains"). JonSlow himself had to step in and delete DracKeN's messages because they were racist. JonSlow, however, still allows DracKeN in CL, and claimed "if you were a regular viewer and not DracKeN you would be banned". And while I was discussing DracKeN's messages (where I partially defended him but did also call out the racist sentiment), JonSlow deleted my messages too and told us to stop talking about it. Special treatment.
DracKeN and Alperen having drama between each other reflects just as badly on DracKeN as it does on Alperen. There have been no apologies. As far as I know DracKeN has never apologized for the racist undertones in his remarks towards the Turkish playerbase, and it seems Alperen does not feel bad for being unpleasant in a few cases too (not to mention the accusations of helping Ertug cheat, or cheating himself). Unfortunately all the clowns simply accept DracKeN for who he is, because he is the highest rated CL player. I'm disappointed to see Rmcoo and Darknoob here contributing to the same toxicity against Alperen. This is just tribal arena-clown vs arabia-pleb bullshit. I left the "clown community" for this reason, despite coming to love arena.
Don't take sides here. DracKeN and Alperen are being toxic towards each other because they are both shitty people. The community deserves better.

There's a thread called 'saltmine' and I guess everyone understands things said there aren't meant seriously, it's only purpose is to have fun and shake of frustration from DE bugs, cheaters, smurfs, bad matchups in a salty but friendly attitude. I'm not a fan of Alperen, neither of Ertug, but I could throw bunch of names of high level Turkish players that I respect. In my work I meet people literally from all over the world, wouldn't get far if I'd judge them based on their nationality. Since none really takes salty rants on discord in thread called 'saltmine' seriously, I didn't feel I need to apologize. However, since you took it seriously, I apologize and feel bad for you. As a member of clown council, we don't allow people to leave circus community btw, but we're making an exception, feel free to leave all clown discord servers and don't go back.
You're revieving drama 'and leaving circus' because of your moral standards, I respect it. It would be really poor to assume you're leaving circus because you were rejected to join TrCL btw, so not going to that.
